Now that the cheque is in the mail, so to speak, I figured it was cool to talk about the new-to-me Sho-Bud that I decided upon (I laid out my potential choices in this thread).
Couldn't be more excited for this thing to arrive at my doorstep. It is a 1969 Professional that was rebuilt by Duane Marrs, and refinished by AJ Nelson. It is now an 8+5 guitar. Undercarriage and E9 changer are new Show-Pro (triple/triple, with E raise and lower and B lower just where I like em, on LK). C6 changer is original. The knee levers are being swapped out for teardrops before it is shipped to me.

Truth is, Olli, I'm not sure! I should have been more clear, I did not commission the rebuild myself. These pics are from the seller, who is a fellow forumite but the guitar was not advertised here. The work was done at Show-Pro. Seems that Mr. Marrs has been gone more than four years but I don't believe the guitar has seen much action since his rebuild. I feel fortunate to be coming into (what I'm sure is) a fine example of his work.

Congrats on the guitar. I too have a 1969 Professional that was custom made for somebody because the neck selector and coil tap switches are in between the necks, no holes in the right endplate. Anyway, Jeff did the undercarriage rebuild and did a great job on it, so you should have a really nice guitar to play.

aaron...that's a really cool sho-bud. i had an old white lacquer professional for ten years that i loved. yours is probably even more lovable!
i dig the cowboy junkies. the early album i have has
some neat haunting kinda outta-tune steel on it that fits fine. heroin-country!! |

Thanks fellers. Chris I was but a boy when those early records came out, you're listening to the playing of a fellow named Kim Deschamps. As far as I know he played on their 2nd and 3rd records, the Trinity Session and Caution Horses. He also played with a favourite alt-country band up here called Blue Rodeo. I believe he now lives in Austin.
I toured with Cowboy Junkies in 2010 and played on the album Renmin Park, and also made a brief appearance on the subsequent record Demons.

Kim Deschamps does live here in Austin and is a mighty figure on the local steel guitar scene. He's an excellent musician, and I have a hard time believing he played out-of-tune... although we've all done our share of that in the springtime of our careers, probably.

I missed that "out-of-tune" part. I wouldn't say so, either. I think what Chris was referring to is just the Junkies' general vibe.

By the way, in another thread there was a discussion of picks vs. bare fingers, and if I'm not mistaken I believe Kim plays with his fingers. I could be wrong. I've never met him, let alone picked his brain on the topic.

| That is a beauty Aaron. It is worth carrying.... I was gigging one of my modern, light weight guitars a lot lately, then took one of the Sho~Buds out. The difference in the feel, tone, and vibe between the 2 really shocked me. |

Wow, very cool guitar. Looks like he did a great job with both the finish and undercarriage. Was it originally rack-and-barrel?
We should get together and pick next time I'm in Hamilton/Toronto. I'd love to check out that guitar.

The guitar hasn't yet arrived to me (case is being made and it will then be shipped) but I'm sure I'll be playing it in Ottawa before too long...as a matter of fact I'll be there next weekend with the Sadies but still on the Carter.

It was rack/barrel. All the Professionals were. The two-hole pullers came in 1973 with the Pro-1-2-LDG era.
