Hello ,
I'm new here. so forgive me if I mess up.
My very good friend recently inherited this little lap steel after his father passed away. It has been hidden away in a closet for 30+ years.
Since he knows nothing about guitars and I play quite a bit he asked me if I could find out some info. I'm hoping someone here could help us out.
As the pictures show it says Custom Kraft on the head stock, at he rear of the guitar it says National Dobro Corp, Los Angeles Chicago.
It is 19" long( Sorry but I was corrected below. It is 25" long. It is 19" from the nut to the bridge. I knew I'd screw up the first post !) and is very original appears to have been played very little f at all. It has it's original Alligator case which has an embossed stamp reading Challenge Chicago.
He wants to keep it as it has sentimental value to him. I put new strings on it and it plays very nice.

I don't think you measured correctly... I doubt it is only 19" long. More like 29" I had one very similar to it.
That Valco pickup is a real classic, Some players might not like the attached cord, but as long as it works fine, I would not modify it.
I am not sure that those are the original tuning machines, they may be standard on the lower end model, but mine had Kluston tuners.
You have a real prize there, tune it to any 6th tuning (Major triad and relative minor triad on the same fret) and enjoy a lifetime of learning.

Hi Jack...
Looks to be a standard student model made by NATIONAL under many, many different names which were sold by SEARS, et al. I have this model which was made for the HUGO Music Co., brand named "FULLTONE". It was most commonly manufactured as a "SUPRO". All of the productions were made in various colors using MOTS. Though they were primarily designed for the student,
they nevertheless have a good sound.

I'm sorry it is 19" from the nut to the bridge.
The entire guitar is 25" long.
The tuners say Kluson Chicago stamped on them
Would you know about what year these were made?
