Gang,
More so this year than any other, I thought that every guitar played at the Texas show was a good to really good sounding guitar.
However, IMHO, there was one that really stood head and shoulders above all the rest and that was the '67 D-10 Emmons Push Pull that Junior played.
I have heard Junior on many other guitars and they were all fine. But,,,,there was something extrodinary about this guitar. Straight from the VP to a Nasville 112 (I think), no efects of any kind except maybe a little amp reverb. Absolutely a brillent sounding guitar.
I'm so happy for you Junior and I know that your listeners are too.

I agree with you Bobby.That push pull came through loud and clear all the way to the back of the ballroom.
Until then I was never a big fan of the Nashville 112 but I think I now see the light!! |

I'm sure that anyone (myself included) that appreciates the clear, bell-like sound of an Emmons PP, really enjoyed hearing that '67 cut-tail. That is one sweet, sweet sounding guitar, played by a real master

Though I couldn't attend the Jamboree, I'm certainly not surprised by my brother Bobby's homage to Junior and his new-to-him guitar.
When he first got the horn, Junior called me... I think it was that very morning... and said "you know I've played every brand of guitar there is, except an Emmons. My god, Herb, what was I thinking?" 
I'm happy my old friend enjoys his new guitar. There are many great instruments out there, and some speak to the player more than others. He may push on to other choices of guitar, but I'm sure he'll have great memories of his time with that vintage Emmons, one of the best years for that particular brand.

I bought two of these 67 cuttails new gave oneto my uncle and sold mine to mr erv couple years back, I just wish i had it back but thats hindsite i guess.  |

So that's it, the Kool-aid!
OK, I can't gripe till I own one (Emmons) and I hope to some day.
You should have called me for a ride to Dallas. You were sorely missed and your name came up more than once. Fondly, of course.
It was a wonderful show; I just made Saturday but got to hear Steve Palousek, Paul Franklin and some other amazing pickers I'd not heard or heard of. One pleasant surprise was Hank Singer on fiddle. Howard Kalish said "Yeah, he's getting the hang of it." Some hang. |
