Gorden, if Herb would chime in I'm sure he would know but I heard somewhere that Buddy played a Sho-Bud on the original. Would like to know myself.- Henry

I have heard that Grady Martin adjusted the speed of the tremolo on Buddy's amp with the"Speed"knob...also seen pictures from that period where Buddy was using an external reverb tank on live shows...maybe he used that in the studio as well?

It was Grady's Magnatone amp and yes, Grady was adjusting the tremolo. The guitar was this Bud:

I'm pretty sure the reverb was the studio effect.

And still my favorite Buddy sound. But I had always heard it ways the Bud with the white necks. I had one just like the one in the picture.

In 1986 - Ray Price recut his hits in a series of three records for Step One: "Greatest Hits Volumes 1-3." "Night Life" is on Volume Two. All these records are excellent w/ Emmons on steel - plus Blondie, Spicher, Leon Rhodes, Kenny Sears and many other top players. I think this is some of Ray's best singing ever - plus "Burning Memories" isn't weighed down with strings and "Danny Boy" is the best version of this song - ever - maybe even better than Jackie Wilson's recording!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that amp in that pic is a Gibson, exactly the amp my dad had in the late 50's. but as I say, correct me if I[m wrong.

The above photo was taken by a friend of mine. The location is the Sioux Falls Colosseum in September 1961.
I gave the photo to Buddy at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in 1981.

And 18 of these cuts, including Night Life & Crazy Arms are available as "The Classic Songs of Ray Price" for as little as $4.90 on Amazon.com.

I agree with Robert, Mr. Price's singing is great. And Mr. Emmons brings new life and cool licks to his solos and fills of these classics.
Highly recommended.

That is a Gibson amp, but Buddy's amp is the Standel tilted back behind him. You can see a climpse of the white padded upholstery behind his chair.

The picture of Buddy's Sho-Bud with the gold pick-ups was the one I bought from Ron Lashley in the 60's. It sure was a beautiful and great sounding guitar. When speaking with Buddy at one of the conventions in St. Louis, he wondered what happened to the gold pick-ups and I told him I was the one who purchased it.
