Hello,
A local church has invited me to play steel and asked for an instrumental song. I want to swing it on C6. I can only come up with:

Just a closer walk with Thee.

Could yall suggest others that sound good played either western swing or swing style (is there a difference??)??
Thanks.

Parr, I kid you not. I played with a church band one time that did "Sweet Home Chicago" for the offertory. It was a hoot! I don't think anybody in the congregation had any clue. They were just rockin out with us. As long as it's done for the glory of God...I doubt He really cares! God Bless and play from the heart. Whip

Parr,

Check out some of John Petersons' material. John was a lap steel player that played along the lines of Bud Tutmarc. He's the one who wrote some very melodic songs that lay very well over a swing and even jazz style. A couple of his songs would be "Heaven Came Down", a waltz but very fun to play as a jazz waltz. "Since Jesus Came into My Heart" is another one. One I recorded years ago was "There's Not a Day That Passes". These songs have been known as 'Christian dance music Smile

At one time I played a version of "I've Got a Mansion (Just Over the Hilltop) on C6th. It lays real nice on the "2 week notice" neck.

Check out Doug Jernigan's "My Ministry" instruction. It's tabbed note for note from his CD My Ministry and mostly done in a swing style. Some of it is faster than I can think and has both E9th and C6th songs on it.

I think Doug's web site is www.digndoug.com

Cool

I think "He Looked Beyond My Fault" is the same melody & chords as "Danny Boy." Hope I'm remembering correctly.
