Hi:
Can non pedal steel tabs be played on E9th pedal steel by holding down the pedals and/or knee levers to adjust to the appropriate tuning (Ex: C6,A6 etc)?

Can someone give an example tab and tell me how to do this?

Joe, if you lower the E's, the E9th tuning becomes a B6th. This is the idea behind the universal tuning. The notes for the 6 string C6th tuning, from the lowest string are: C E G A C E. Lower the E's, put the bar at the 1st fret. Now you Have: 10th string: C 8th string: E 7th string: G 6th string: A 5th string: C 4th string: E. The same as the 6 string C6th tuning. From here, it's a matter of reading the tab and picking the correct strings. A simple way to look at this; on E9th, two frets back from the pedals down position, with the E's lowered, gives the 6th of that chord. C6th at the 1st fret, G6th at the 8th fret, and so on.
