This is shocking, sad news. Steinar seemed to be doing better in recent weeks and he was looking forward to recording more of his music. Rest in peace, friend.

Even though we never met, we were good friends. I'll never forget when I first heard his version of God Only Knows from a pre-release CD he sent me. I think I listened to it a dozen times. I'll miss him.

This is unbelievable. I never had a chance to meet Steinar in person, but we exchanged e-mails. What a dedicated musician and cheerful person. I'm still in shock.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

As with so many others Steinar gave of himself selfishly and personally to help me many, many times. I am at a loss for words. I believe Steinar like me lived by this.

"I shall pass through this world but once, any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not deter or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again"

All I can think of is

"There is sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief and unspeakable love,"
~Washington Irving~

RIP My Friend.

I'm heartbroken. Although I never met him, his good humor and endless talent made him someone I admired and looked to for musical inspiration. My deepest condolences to his loved ones.

Mike, thank you for keeping us informed throughout this time. I wish you the peace that will come over time, as you remember your friend.

To our Steel Guitar Family,
There are no words that can be spoken, other than to say "We are all in God`s Hands"! He will be missed, but he is beloved.

"Play to express....not impress"

Steinar was a master of expression....in his music, his thoughts, and his words......

A sad fareful to the man.....fortunately, not his music.....

It's always a shock to lose one of our family, one of our brothers here on the forum that we've come to know.
I find comfort that in this sad moment, there are all of you out there, and that we are bound by love, a love of music and steel guitar. I will miss Steinars voice here on the forum.
Though I never met or corresponded with him, it's odd that I feel I knew him, as I do with many of you.
My sincere condolences to his family. He was friends to many, many people.
Travel well Steinar! Raising a glass to you tonight from Los Angeles.

I've been away from the forum for quite some time. I had know idea he was even sick, so this is hitting me really hard, just finding out today Steinar passed.
I have both of Steinar's CDs and communicated with him numerous times over a ten year period, though obviously not frequently enough lately. I am just blown away.
He had such a wonderful touch on the steel and such talent and was/is a beautiful spirit.
I was so honored to have him play some of my instruments and to call me friend.
I will miss him deeply.
Don't take anyone you know for granted. We are all on borrowed time.
RIP

I think some good advice for us all,

“Hold your loved ones close today,
And whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
And that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry," "Please
Forgive me," "thank you," or "It's okay".
And if tomorrow never comes,
You'll have no regrets about today.”

I just read Mike Neer's post and I'm in shock to hear that Steinar has passed.

First, Mike, thanks for keeping us informed with updates about Steinar.

Next, I will pray for helge and the rest of Steinar's family as I'm sure he will be greatly missed.

Steinar was a great musician but more importantly he was a great person. As a perfect stranger he helped me after I emailed him when I first joined the forum. I felt a connection to him whenever we conversed in many threads. I recall him being the peacemaker on many occasions and could be relied on for his positive and kind words.

A few years ago Steinar was having some tax problems and had to part with his beloved "Lizzy", an Asher ElectroHawaiian. I bought it from him from half a world away, and I think of him every time I see her in my music room:

Thank you Steinar.
