i down loaded audacity 1.0 i think i played along with a cd with my laptop sitting on a table in front of my amp when i played it back my steel sounded bad it sure dont sound the same when i just sit and play along and dont record my steel sounds really bad to me if i record could it be where im just using my laptop with no mixer to eq my steel the cd sounded fine could it be that it has already been mixed down to sound its best.

Are you simply using a built-in mic to pick up both the CD and the amp signals? I would expect the amp to be more dirctional than a typical stereo/CD player.

yes ron im only using the built in computer mic thats probably why it sounds so bad to me thanks,
