On my way to San Diego last weekend, I stopped at Steel Guitar of North County in Oceanside, CA.
Jim Palenscar was gracious and professional and checked out my recently purchased Sho-Bud SD-10 from bottom to top.
He patiently explained the rack n' barrel system to me, made some adjustments & added a lower. Just what I needed!
He also tweaked levers & pedals so they fit me better.
I highly recommend visiting his shop!
Thanks Jim! |

Jim is well-loved in the steel world, and for good reason!
Jim, I'll miss you in Dallas this year due to gigging conflicts, but I've got my sights set on 2013. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

When they say "hands on" they mean Jim Palenscar. He doesn't guess, he knows. A-1 steel mechanic. |

Not only all of the above, but if y'all have ever used his laser-cut fretboards, you will soon realize that these babies are the most accurate fretboards on the planet Earth. Aesthetically, they are superior to anything out there, thin instead of "bulky" looking, and easy to install....AND custom-made to your specs at no additional charge!!!
Sorry...my prejudice is showing thru here. Hey, Jim, you've got me spoiled!!! Fine work!!!

I agree, not only is Jim an A-1 mechanic, he's a great player and great guy! He repaired my old Sho-Bud recently and added a lower to my copedant. I was also fortunate to recieve a lesson also. If I lived closer I would also be a "regular"!

Kudos to Jim. My wife and I visited his shop about 10 days ago. Jim and Rick took approx 90 min out of their busy days to chat and talk shop. It was so interesting and enjoyable that my wife (who dislikes "steel-talk" almost as much as she abhors watching NFL) became engaged in the conversation.
Jim has a great store and repair area. His shop is stocked with a boatload of nice guitars (one of which I'm in the process of buying). He seems to be both an honest and knowledgeable guy, so I'm looking forward to doing business with him.
For the uninitiated, the trip to his shop is well worth the effort, if for no other reason than just to see the words "Steel Guitars" in huge letters on the mall's marquee. If you like steel guitar....you'll go crazy at Steel Guitars of North County. |
