Since I learned from and was so impressed by all those honkey tonk steel players with attitudes,
I thought I should try something different to generate more interest in PSG lessons.
Everyone seems to think they should achieve wonders in a few days.
So I thought I would approach teaching from a different perspective.
Sell the sizzle not the steak so to speak.

I think you two have really hit on something with truly great potential.

I can only think of a couple of things that might also make it more appealing, stuff like, no need to learn to slant, or tune the machine or learn music.
You'll be into speed picking within the first two weeks and I'll personally show you how to acquire all of the volume and treble the amp is capable of producing.

HEY STUDIO GUY!

Has anyone, yet, hit on the fabulous idea of hooking up a peedle steedle guitar to an AUTOTUNE MACHINE? Whoa! Whoa!
You could load it with like a four-note chord, and then just slide the bar around to the "whatever" key and the machine would translate everything that's NOT in the chord TO that chord.

Just send my royalties to my Paypal 'dress.

David it sounds like a great idea, but inventions related to steel guitar just don’t seem to catch on no matter how good they are.
Let me give you an example:
One genius on here invented a tab that all you had to do was place it between your rear and your steel guitar seat and the tab would go to your brain by a process of osmosis. The invention was called Butt Braille Tab. As earth shaking as it was it had absolutely no success.

Ray I’m inclined to agree with you that my idea could really catch on.
If the powers that be in our own little Steel Guitar world factored into the criteria rating of Steel Players a percentage for being an arrogant jerk, Bo would be a headliner at all the conventions. Laughing

This topic was supposed to be about ideas on how to sell the sizzle to get folks to want to learn Steel guitar

For instance impressing upon potential students that they will not be just be another cheap six string guitar player that are a dime a dozen annoying folks playing "Stairway to Heaven" at the local music store on Saturday afternoon.

This is the attitude of which I speak and I take it to the point of being an arrogant jerk and make no apologizes. With the understanding I'm looking at this from a viewpoint of a weekend warrior honky tonk player.

I always feel like other than the vocalist I’m the most important person in the band regardless of that being a reality.

An arrogant jerk so to speak in that you better not take up any of my space on the stage or in a song.

If you’re getting in my ear with the volume one of us is moving to the other side of the stage and it’s not going to be me.

The only time I’m going to move is when I pack up and haul it to the van and that may be at the beginning of the first set or the end of the last set or anytime in-between.

If the guitar player wants to leave no problem I brought my guitar.
