Perhaps this is a foolish question, but I presume you also have the legs, pedal bar and rods? Whereabouts in Indiana are you? Thanks!

Dave it would make you or whoever a nice tone monster
This model of pedal steel like the Fingertip had a wonderful rich tone.
The Baldwin Crossover was a double neck with a shift type lever or gear that the player could move. In one position all the pedals would operate the top neck. Moving the shift lever would disengage the pedals from the top neck to the bottom neck(by moving the shift lever, the pedals "crossed over" to the other neck, thus the term "crossover"). In this way, all the pedals could actually be used on both necks just by the flick of the shift lever. This shift lever was positioned on the back side of the pedal steel facing the player. The undercarriage of the Baldwin Crossover was unique in the fact that the pull rods were attached to small metal "baskets". These baskets were connected to the pedal crossrods and bell crank.

Is that a single KL on the left? Could more knees be added to this model? What a beauty...any sound clips?

Dennis,
I'm not certain, but,,,, you might have to sacrifice a pedal to free up a rack for a knee lever.

Now that I think about it more,,,,, It's pretty crowded under there! But,, It might be possible to get something machined to do the job. You don't actually need a "rack" to pull on a rod. Just something that would swivel, and push on a "barrel." Might be possible. And there might be other ways too. You could PM James Morehead.

These can easily be added to.
I converted the one I had to a sd10 with the help of Jim Lindsey with little trouble at all. Removing some pedals and adding the knees in their place..If I had it - this is what I would do.

Some body hurry up and but this tone machine before I have to rob a bank.. Laughing

This appears to be a VERY fine specimen of a crossover. Who ever buys this guitar should play it as it is--set up as the factory set it up. Leave it alone! Enjoy it for that piece of history it represents---learn to play it as the masters played it back in the day--that's the fun of the nostalgia. These guitars are very hard to mod. Infact, I do not work on crossovers anymore--there is just no way to mod them without a huge investment involved. That being said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with playing it the way Shobud Company meant it to be played. Enjoy!!

Thankyou for the kind words, Dennis. MOST Shobud models can be modded with out too much trouble. Unfortunatly, the Crossover model is not one of them. They are fine if you play them as they were designed to be played. It would be tragic for someone to purchase such a fine specimen, believing they could "modernize" it, and after much frustration and money spent, this guitar could be reduced greatly in monetary value and lose it's appeal as a piece of Shobud history. This guitar would be best purchased for what it is and enjoyed as such. The tone from this guitar will drip out of your speakers like honey!!

Dennis, very cool! There's not much space for adding racks, and the more I've thought about it, the more possibilities I see.
