Anyone here remember Gene Lynn, who passed away some time ago? I'm posting on behalf of his son, who's trying to find some stories or recollections about him.
He played with band called OutBak and with the District News with Norm Whitmer and steel player Joe Tippie.
Anyone with info please PM me and I'll put you in touch with him. Thanks!

I'll ask Bernie Waldon if he knows him. He knows many pickers in the Indianapolis area. Bernie goes back a long way as he worked some jobs (played bass) for Steve Wariner before he went to Nashville. |

It will have to be tomorrow. There is phone outage, either his location or a major telephone switch problem as all I get is "your call cannot go through now, try later". I've tried both with landline and cell which are different carriers and get the same thing. |

I finally talked to Bernie Waldon. His phone has been out for two days.
He doesn't Know Gene, but he said he does know Joe Tippie and that he thought Joe worked with Steve Wariner at one time too. |

Joe Tippie was the first live steel player I ever saw, and the band was playing "The Other Woman" when I walked in the door. This was back in the early 70's. I did know Gene, but not very well, but I germed Joe to death. He's retired in Florida (!) now.
I wrote a piece about Indy at Steel Guitar Insanity. _________________ C#

Cal, do you know where in Florida he's at. I've got a big list of steel guitar players since I'm the "main flunkie" for the Florida Steel Guitar Club, but I don't have his name on "my list"...
Bernie would be interested in that, too. |

Cal,
I worked a job in Indy this past Sat. night with a guy who said he played in a band with Gene. He said he would be happy to talk with Gene's son. _________________ Dave |

Joe,
I have been sitting in with the "Old Dawgs" (Darrel & Larry Young) on the first Friday of the month at the Legion at I70 & Holt Rd. Been there Feb. & Mar. Fridays only, I work a Sat night gig in Scottsburg IN. I used to be in a band with these guys a few years ago (Last Stage West) & I enjoy getting to pick with them when I can. _________________ Dave |

I played with Gene Lynn with Jerry Lowe in the late 70's He had the prettiest Drums I ever saw to this day.
Gene was also a cut up type (if I remember right) liked to tell Jokes..His Drum set was lit up the first I ever saw with lights in them. Great drummer also gene all around nice guy. RIP Gene I beleive Gene was in a band with Joe Tippy a Bowling alley Lounge,Joe gene Alvin(bass)Steve Davis,Gene, and i will remember lead singer who is now a preacher..I forgot Gene played with Joe |

I played at a Jam session in a garage about a year ago and Bernie was there looking great I think he is at least late 70"S playing bass like a Pro he is:).
Him and Glenn Scott had a great band for many many years. I been an Idpls picker for about 36 years know about all Indy pickers |

I'll see Bernie tonight, at the weekly Monday night gig we do, in "The Villages". We also work a Tuesday day gig together and Bernie is our backup band bass picker for our Steel Guitar Club.
Danny James, from the Indy area, will probably be there this evening too. Danny was a teacher at Harlin Bros music school when Danny was in High School.
There are a couple of pictures with Berne in them, on my web site. www.gulfcoaststeelguitar.com |
