Hi Gary do you have the one with the built in preamp?
I use mine regularly though the normal channel of my vibroverb with good result and can make a few suggestions.I'm not familiar with the older model with just the cat can. |

Gary, if you're hoping for the sound of a real acoustic reso in your lap, it won't get you all the way there. More of a simulation that will work with a full band sound to get "dobroishness". Many folks have good luck using a phenolic, plastic, or wooden bar to further cut sustain, and less reverb or a short reverb program with some highs rolled off the amp from what you might normally use with steel.
I like a real dobro sound with lots of delay, so I use that.
As weird as it sounds, I think you might be even happier using a BoBro simulator with it, or the EQ pedal trick with every other slider moved to opposites of cut and boost.
Those cat cans are a really neat idea. _________________ Stop by the Steel Store at: www.markvanallen.com

I use my older CC all the time. I run it thru a Match-Bro or a Fish and Chips EQ pedal. Works well. I use a normal Scheerhorn dobro bar. I also tried it with an Aura pedal, but didn't like it as much. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

Fluger makes them. Check this out:
http://www.flugerguitars.com/RGS.html
The pics are outdated...It is now a normal 6-8 string lapsteel without the can, but it has a bobro like circuitry.
Also, the keyhead is no longer made of metal, but it is made of wood.
You also have the option of leg mounts.
Comes with a hardshell case. _________________ 1977 Sho~Bud D10 ProIII Custom; Sho~Bud SD10 The Professional ; ETS S10 5x5;

Here's my 8-stringer with the built in simulator processor -- it also has a catcan under the bridge !

I had one of the original ones for about 20 yrs. It was a disappointment for any authentic dobro sound but was a pretty good rock and blues machine tuned to open G, D or E.
The "cat can" tone was pretty good acoustically but there was just no way that would transfer through the pickup. I even tried a couple piezos and transducers trying to translate the acoustic sound to amplification.
Used with a Match-Bro or BoBro it worked really well though. |

Getting the right sound requires use of a lighter bar, and the proper tone settings. You can't EQ it like a pedal steel. You have to raise the mids and then turn the lows way down, then adjust the tone with amps the treble control. I have the 6 string version of the Marrs RGS, and I think it sounds more authentic than a stomp-box simulator. |

The newer Fluger/Marrs with the simulator in it is a big improvement. |

has anyone ever tried running a dobro with, in my case, a lace pickup through a bobro to get good amplified projection? |
