Teddy is the son of Richard and Linda Thompson. She had a song covered on the "Trio" album called "Telling Me Lies".
"Change Of Heart" with Greg Leisz and the wonderful string section:

Once again, Greg is playing the perfect part perfectly for a perfect song. I wonder if anybody here isn't looking at this thread because they don't think Greg can play real country steel?
Years ago when I first started my run with Heather Myles, I had to learn some of Greg's parts from her first couple albums. Trust me, it was as solidly "hard" country as any player ever! Of course I'm as jealous as can be that he has gotten the call to play with Joni Mitchell and other great non country artists, playing textural/non traditional style steel...but I can totally understand why! I'm a fan.
Btw, I'm glad I now know who Teddy Thompson is. Thanks for posting Joachim! |

Thanks for posting,
That album is one of my favorites.
A background story that I had read about the creation of the album spoke of a young Teddy riding in the car to his parent's, (Linda and Richard Thompson), gigs, listening to great mix tapes of classic country tunes that they had compiled. All of that stuff osmosis-ed (osmosified?) itself into his head and eventually found it's way onto this album.
The Greg Leisz steel tracks appear on most of the album and they are really fine.
BTW. What's the deal the string players? The string parts on the album are cool and they're played ok here, but, they "look" silly. -guess it's a TV thing. It brings to mind what Nigel Tufnel said, "It's a fine line between clever and stupid". |
