I think Jason Lollar made Charlie 8s at one time, but they're not listed on his site now.
Anybody know if there's a current maker/seller? |

I had some made by Vintage Vibe. They currently reside on my Triple. I don't like them as well as the Rio Grande Stringmaster-style singles that I use in my production models, but they're great sounding and very cool looking pickups.

I wouldn't expect them to rival a typical Stringmaster style PU in tones, those have more treble usually, while a CC might have a lower/mellow focus, which is what I'm after. Is that your experience here, JA? |

That's pretty accurate, though the way I wire the blend on my SM sets, they're versatile enough to go from cutting through anything to very full "mellow" tone and in-between they're hum-canceling.
I'd say that the Vintage Vibes are pretty much what you're imagining. Very full and smoothe, but nice string definition and separation. I've got them wired with a tone selector so that I can start with a fatter, less treble tone if I want it and still have my regular tone knob for swells. With the treble rolled off a little, they get really "vintage". Another advantage with Vintage Vibes is that they can be supplied with a couple of different types of magnets to give a different tone profile.

You're making me happier with every post!
I'm thinking you have at least one CC positioned away from the bridge, as opposed to right next to the bridge as is most common. If so, what degree of differing tones do you find from the other?
I'm considering putting a CC in front of a horseshoe as I decide on the layout for a future purchase of a www.cruztonesteel.com and want a significantly different set of sounds to compliment the shoe. |
