I have a Peavy 110 nice Amp but not happy with built in Reverb. Any suggestions on a good external Reverb?

I purchased a HOLY GRAIL Reverb to go along with my VOLU-TONE amp and it works well, giving me just the right amount of room accoustics that I prefer.

Not at all noisy.........

I like the Van-Amps "Sole-mate"
Real spring reverb, kinda pricey, but not as much as a large Fender unit.

I have a Holy Grail but switched to a Malekko Spring Chicken with the Belton Digi-log reverb brick a few years ago. I think it has a more authentic spring reverb sound than the Holy Grail. However, it lacks the Hall reverb and flerb of the HG, so it isn't quite as versatile.

And then last summer I picked up "Mr. Springgy" from a forum member and like it even better than the Spring Chicken. For one thing it is analog and Lee Jackson really captured the sound of an old Fender Reverb combo amp. And I think it is very musical.

I see that EHX is no longer selling the original "tin box" Holy Grail, just the Nano version in the smaller and stronger case, and the HG Plus which adds a Room reverb along with an extra control knob.

The Holy Grail is a good choice and better than the reverbs in many of the new amps.

Steve Ahola

P.S. For the absolute worse reverb check out the Boss Deluxe Reverb pedal. The reverb itself is good but at random intervals it will produce the sound of someone kicking the reverb springs. If that reverb crash had something to do with what I was playing it wouldn't be so bad.

While tweed is undoubtedly one of the best-sounding materials for reverbs it tends to be out of my price range. I find this little baby does the job: http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=1021

It provides pretty tweedy sound at a fraction of the price. Wink

I'm happy with the Boss 'Fender 63 Reverb' pedal for portability, but I like my VanAmps Solemate best. Rick the Maori has good taste! I had a fairly early Holy Grail and it was very noisy. I've heard that the power supplies were inconsistent then and I probably got a bad one. I got the tweed covered Solemate to match my home built tweed replica amps. The upholstery makes it sound better, of course.

I use the WET reverb (the previous version of the current pedal) which I like:

I second the motion for the Wet Reverb pedal, I recently picked up a '63 Fender Reverb by Boss, they're both pretty hard to beat imho. If I could only have one, I'd keep the Wet one.

I have three amps with the spring reverb, but I like the electronic reverb better. I use the Zoom 507, which has a very small touch of reverb, when in the mode that comes on when powered, which is A-1 on the read-out. Lots of reverb isn't for me, but it does enhance the tone some.
Never tried the "Holy Grail"

The Holy Grail's flerb is something else! I wouldn't use it for steel, but for guitar it's really good:
