So which one is the best of the three? |
Tough - it's not a cop-out to say that they're all different. The Recording King is a bit of a brat, really - right now it's in E7 (BDEG#BE), and with that P90-style pickup, it can be persuaded to scream a little. Refined, it is not. The Melbert - high G C6 (ACEGACEG) - on other hand, is smooth, refined and mellow. It's really well-balanced, helped by a tone control that is actually useful.
I'm still getting to know the Guyatone in C6 (CEGACE). The front pickup sounds delicious to my ears - the back is a bit thin, and the jury is out on the combination. When string change time comes, I'm going to take a peek at the electronics - both pots are a bit scratchy, and don't 'feel' very good, so I'll probably replace them. The much-maligned rocker switches seem fine - what's curious is that they have three distinct positions, but I cannot detect any difference between the two 'on' settings. It may just simply be wear that makes them stop in the middle, but it feels as if they ought to.
If I had to grab one in a hurry on the way out of a burning house, it would be the Melbert, without a doubt.

David, I think your local veterinarian can nip this problem in the bud with a simple lil' operation, reasonably priced. You just have to figure out which is the, um, offending individual - the rooster so to speak. |
I have no desire to treat this condition In fact, I'm seriously considering getting a Rogue Jersey Lightning after looking at Michael Lee Allen's centrefold spread earlier in the thread. |
