Abilene Tx. drummer Randy Lovell passed away this morning at 2.30 AM at the age of 57. I am told he had a heart attack and a stroke. He will be missed by the hundreds of musicians he has performed with through the years. RIP old friend. |

Dang Doyle, that's hard to hear. He worked with us a couple of times not long ago. Excellent drummer and good guy too. A member of our WTSGA, Danny Bohannon has had a massive heart attack and is not doing well. He was at our last meeting and looked very well. Give your family a hug, you never know when it's your turn. |

I had the good pleasure of playing a few gigs with Randy in the Jacksonville area some years ago. He was not only a talented drummer, but a fine vocalist and impressionist. Here is a photo of Randy and one of the bands with which he performed:
My condolences to Randy's family.

So sorry to hear this. Randy was one of the best drummers I ever worked with. A nice friend and as John said, a great impressionest. One year about 6 0r 7 years ago, in the Fulawka room, Randy had a couple beers, got loosened up just enough to over ride His shyness, and did "Ernest Tubb, Johnnie Cash, Ray Price, and several more and nailed it!!
I will try to download a couple pics of Randy.
Rest in peace, old friend Lonnie

Yesterday (May 11) I found out Randy had passed. We were best friends 30 years ago, and every now and then (without success) I'd try and find my old friend, just to see how he's been getting on. I know most of you knew Randy from the music biz, but I only knew him as my brother-in-law back in the 1970's. We were married to two sisters, making him my brother in law, but he was more than that to me. He was a good friend and we had a lot of laughs over the years. The last time I saw him was around 1982, when I passed through Abilene. He was playing in a "honky-tonk" (probably The Ponderosa?) and we sat and talked about how our lives had changed, how we had both divorced, he had a son, and I was sowing the oats I missed out on by getting married too young. He said to me "Did you ever think things would turn out like this?". We laughed about it, but right now I know exactly what he was saying, that you never know what God has planned for you. You just never know. So 30 years of searching, and I finally found him. Maybe it's too late to say it, but I missed you old friend. |
