Had to share my joy!
I have just bought my first real vintage instrument: A Rickenbacker DW16 which I pickied up on ebay for 800 Euro (about $1050). This probably isn't such a big deal for you all in the US but instruments like this do not turn up in Europe so often. I think I've seen only one Fender Stringmaster and a Dual Professional for sale in the last three years!
Up until now I've had some old European instruments and as sweet as they are, I've just realized what it is about those Ricky horseshoe pickups that everyone raves about. Responsive doesn't get close to describing the difference... and suddenly I am very aware of how bad my left AND right hand muting is, those pickups catch every nuance. 
The tuners have had there day and been replaced with Gotoh's. Other than that looks and feels original. I've attached a pic just out of the sheer pride and joy of owning this. Next challenge - what to do with that second neck!

I had a guitar exactly like yours from around 1965 until I sold it to a guy in Hawaii about two years ago. It can be seen along with my You Tube posts.
It was a great guitar without a single blemish and yours is certainly an equal to it.

That model is, IMO, and many others, THE "sleeper" in the steel gtr world - the best post-war Ric made. I have the single neck version and it will smoke my '54 fender dual, which is as good as they come.

Thanks to you all. I've just tried Mike Neer's Strategies for Improvisation and just for fun I put the Ricky through a cheap Korg amp simulator; I think this is where folks in the US say OMG, OMG!
Next purchase has got to be a tube amp, something appropiate to its age ... shhh cos' the wife is passing by (but a Bassman perhaps!)

Paul........before you seek out the BIGGEST and the BEST for your new find, I'd strongly recomment that you drag your lil' g'tar down to a music store that sells old, 1940-1950's equipment and try each and every one of the older amps on the floor.
Put the amp UP on a chair or crate.......
Seek out a Rola or Jensen 8 inch speaker.
They likely won't have a reverb but you can always acquire a Holy Grail Reverb for that 'special' sound.
OR, if you have access to a Peavy Session LA-400, give it's 12 inch speaker a try using ONLY about 1.5 to 2.5 of SATURATION. It will provide GREAT accoustics for your great little g'tar.
TRUST ME! I'd never mislead a Rickenbacher player.
I have a 1930's VOLU-TONE, a 1965 Pro-Junior Fender,An Oahu, An Epiphone Electar 10" with reverb, a Session-400 Peavy and LA-400.....and others. All twelve of my Bakelites sound GREAT thro' these older amps. BIGGER is NOT necessarily better for these older guitars nor is the newer circuitry. Try it.......and only then, buy it.

| I love that wood and chrome color combination, plus being a Ric double 8, so sweet. I'd have to +1 on an old Valco, Oahu, or similar,with an 8" Rola or Jensen, or even a 15" would provide some great deep undertow. |
