There is a neat article on David Lindley in the June issue of Acoustic Guitar. He shares all about his guitar collection and his road guitars. He uses a 6 and 8 string Canopus Steel Guitar that came from Scottys Music.Has anyone else tried these guitars that are imported from Japan? The article was very good and it was nice to see Scotty's mention along with there web site and phone number. Thanks if you can help. |

Andy,
I haven't played one, but they seem to be somewhat popular with Hawaiian players--HSGA prez Alan Akaka plays a Canopus. Also, Bobby Ingano, who is known for his great tone, used a borrowed Canopus on his Steel Reflections album, but it doesn't specify for which cut. On the other hand, when I asked veteran Hawaiian steeler Dick Sanft about Canopus steels he was not keen on them.
I'm with you. Let's hear more from the people who have actually played them. Inquiring minds want to know. |

I've played two or three of Lindley's Canopus guitars and they were very good. The best guitar of his, though, is a Manzanita brand guitar made in Germany. Lindley told me he'll be writing an article for Acoustic Guitar about them. It's the *best* Weissenborn-style guitar I've ever played. And it's very well built.

I found them awhile back with a search on Manzanita. (I was going to use Manzanita for my guitar co. name and label, I was really surprised to find them in West Germany. Who ever heard of Manzanita bushes in europe?) |

Mike
I did a Alta-Vista search on them before I posted my query and got a load of nothing.
I know they're out there somewhere ..

Mick, use Yahoo and search Manzanita Guitars. It was the first to pop up.

It's the player, not the guitar...Lindley makes those K&Ss sound good...
