Hey everyone,
I am a fairly new player, so please excuse my lack of knowledge on this topic. Obviously Paul Franklin is one of the top steel players out there. From my research, I see he makes guitars also. Just curious how they are and if they are still being made. Again, I apologize for possibly not knowing what MAY be obvious!!!

Evan, Paul Jr. is the player. Paul Sr. (his Dad) is the builder. They are great guitars, quite rare these days (as people hang on to them), so quite in demand and used ones always sell for a premium price. Paul Sr. isn't making many of them these days, as far as I know.

Hi Evan,
Paul's Dad makes the guitars that Paul plays. As far as I know at this writing, he's still building them. But I would also suspect he has a backlog of orders in front of you if you wanted to purchase one. I've never heard any complaints about a Franklin, but that's just me.

If you're interested in a Franklin, you should give Paul, Sr a call at (615) 865-4754. He builds great guitars and always backs them up with personalized service. I love mine.
Also, where are you from in GA? I'm originally from Blakely. |

I am in Atlanta! I currently take lessons with Mark Van Allen (on the forum), although with the holidays and such, it's been a few months, but we're getting back to it! Glad to be playing Steel. Have loved the instrument for years! I have a 2008 Magnum w/ Franklin Pedal. Probably don't need a new one at this point, but I was just curious on the name. Thank you for the info!

Are these hard guitars to find? I can't find ONE place selling a used S-10!

Yes, they're harder to find than some brands. Put into perspective, though, the highest serial number (over 30+ years) is in the low 200s. Looking for one is almost as fun as playing one!

So, does it produce a sound that is super unique? Is it the feel? Just trying to get an understanding of the model. Thanks!

last i heard thru the grapevine - you are looking at near 5 figures to get one from Paul Sr. - if you want it bad enough, he'll build you one.
just enjoy your Magnum and dont worry about the name on your guitar.

BUT, I still looked...and they are REALLY hard to find!
I'm more just curious. As a newbie, I am trying to familiarize myself with the brands and such.

They are the best playing guitars I have ever sat behind.
I had a hard time getting a tone I liked, but if I had the chance to own one, I'd jump on it and figure the tone out later.
