I was very surprised to see a steel player with Billy Currington last night on theTonight Show with Jay Leno. I've read on the forum that Billy doesn't usually have one in his band. I did a sound gig a few years back with Billy and he had no steel player then.

They positioned the player just to the left and a little behind the star and his steel was the loudest thing in the mix and at times it seemed twice as loud as the lead vocal. Of course I was diggin' that. The player had very nice tone, fairly thick reverb and an S-10 GFI Ultra. Does anyone know who and under what circumstances he was with Billy? A very nice job indeed!

That would be Abe Stoklasa. I did an NTSGA jam with him some years ago. One of his big heroes was Don Helms, if I recall correctly.

It sure is nice to see Billy packing a steel player. He is one of the good guys in todays country music scene.

Abe has been with Billy Currington full time since September or so if I recall correctly...I did not get to watch Billy on Leno, but Abe is a consistently solid player. We went to college together at Belmont.

I saw Abe on Jay Leno's show with Billy and I could really hear him. He's playin' a black and silver GFI Ultra S-10. Paul Franklin plays some great steel on Billy's latest record. I saw Abe with Billy on Jay's show and I was thinkin' about how great it is that Billy's got a steel player now. He's a great player for sure

I saw that spot. Abe did a great job on Let Me Down Easy. That's a catchy little steel riff on the intro, t/a etc.

Does some backup singing too, I see. Cool
