That's a Harmony model H-17. I had one just like it
when I was 15 or 16 years old, my first electric
guitar! Great axe...

Sorry but you are Incorrect sir, THIS is the Silvertone branded model , they were branded under different names and makers and the Harmony model may have been as you have stated ,If you looked at the logo on the headstock you would plainly see that this guitar is THE SILVERTONE 1478.If anyone has a question or thinks differently then what I have stated in any of my posts or listings please email me personally or send me a private message.

What? What??... he is 100% correct.. He was merely stating that this guitar is identical to the Harmony H-17.. It IS indeed a harmony H-17 with a Silvertone label.. Silvertone USA built guitars were made by Harmony,Kay or Danelectro depending on the year and model..Jeez, lighten up... bob

check this site, Sears aka Silvertone never built any guitars, they just bought them and had them branded Silvertone. Not all Silvertones were Harmony guitars though, they also sold some made by Danelectro, Tiesco and others

Those are great sounding guitar by the way.

I had a Teisco/ Silvertone version of this about 10 years ago.Thinking it was worth alot of money I took it to Gruhn in Nashville with the intent of selling it. After George set the record straight on what the guitar actually was and how it was born I was offerd $175.00 which I turned down.Later I gave this guitar to a student I had that lost her guitar in a house fire.

Guys, this is an example of a high jacked thread. The man is trying to sell a guitar and we get into all of the side issues such as history of the guitar, etc, which detracts from the main purpose: To sell the guitar.

These issues should be brought up on another thread, not here. Sorry, you mean't no harm, but please...

Happens all the time Jim. Brave of you to point it out. I think you're correct about there not being any harm intended, but I support your conclusion. It reinforces my position that classified ads should be closed to postings/replies except by the seller.

This is not a highjacked thread at all.

I've learned just as much about gear and history from discussions in the classified section as I have from any other section in this wonderful forum. It is absolutely necessary and desirable to be able to have open discussions about the items for sale, and I would think that the seller would welcome the interest, especially considering he has a store of his own.

Larry meant no harm and Robert may have overreacted a little, but now thanks to Mikes link we have all learned some cool stuff.

This is a nice looking guitar and Robert's price looks reasonable for someone that really wants this guitar.

So providing more accurate information about an item is now hijacking a thread?
I don't see it that way, as a buyer I like to know as much as possible about whatever I'm interested in, and as a seller if someone else can add more relevant info that only helps.
I could go into market value but I won't , that is something that a prospective buyer needs to figure out on their own.

I agree that this is NOT a hijacked thread.

In fact, aren't the other posters simply providing facts about the item? Certainly, by doing so, they are helping the seller and any potential buyer.

And what's wrong with that? Nothing.

Actually the facts are misleading if it were a Teisco "Branded" model it would depict so on the headstock and model number , same as if it were a Harmony "Branded" guitar or a Dano. Each guitar most probably being the same with the exception of the NAME on the headstock and corresponding model number(s) used for identification an possibly color(s) offered , so to set the record straight for everyone this is a "Silvertone" branded solid body electric guitar ,model number 1478.Which was produced and branded under different names and model numbers for different companies offering this style and type of guitar(s) for sale during the time period.Pricing may vary due to such branding, condition, color and appointments offered. Smile

Always best to have open access to information, esp on sale items. And vintage stuff details can be elusive these days. I would rather have the info, than trying to decide if i made a poor
decision afterwards.
