There seems to be quite a lot of Push/pull versus all-pull topics on the forum these days.
My take on this subject is: if you can not hear the difference, buy an all-pull.
Greetings from a Norwegian Push/pull lover (hoping not to offend anyone). _________________ Emmons D-10 P/P 78", Franklin D-10, Zum Encore. Sho-Bud LDG |

I really believe that it has less to do with tone than a psyche-level connection with the guitar; presumably from that satisfying thunk in the whole body when fingers hit body, instead of the stop "somewhere under the guitar".
Look at the data from both Johnny Cox and Buddy Emmons posted here in the last coupla weeks. Push-pull aficionados couldn't tell which records from E and Dumpling were on the push-pull.
I've had a push-pull, it sounded good but apparently had setup issues because I spent more time holding the Allen wrench at the endplate than plucking strings.
My Zum and MSA are more satisfying to play, because they stay in tune. Hell, the Zum usually jumps out of the case ready to play, still in tune.
I'd love to have a push-pull, but I'd send it straight to Mr. Cass for a checkout. Back in 82, they said the tuning instability was the price you pay to get that sound. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

To me, the push/pull does have a unique sound all its own.
To my ears the old ZB has a unique sound as well.
I guess what I'm saying is to my ears there is the push/pull, the ZB and all the others. I have a hard time distinguishing different all-pulls.
None better or worse than the other. Just unique and different. _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

Ben, every forum delights in taking the same issues out for a jog every few weeks or months.
Take Dagorhir, my other hobby. just for grins, I looked at the back page of their rules forum, dating back around 10 years.
The same issues as they STILL talk about. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Right.
Thats why I changed my mind. It may be dull and repititve to me, but if people are still posting then people still have something to say on the matter. Far be it from me to oppose that. |

I have a S-10 pp & a D-10 pp also have a SD-10 all pull & a D-10 all pull, I like all of them and they all sound different.
The only difference is the all pull is more maintance free than the pp
