I live in a remote section of Idaho and don't have access to other steel players. I am planning a trip to the Bay Area Feb 29 to March 7 and would appreciate meeting steel players who would be willing to offer me some tips and/or instruction. Also would be interested in hearing bands with pedal steel. Please let me know where you live and if you would be willing to meet me during this time.

Dennis,

I'm not much of a pedal steel player, but you're certainly welcome to check out my band Go Van Gogh while you're here (assuming we're playing during that time).

The Hicks With Sticks website has a good calendar of SF Bay Area country music. It's a bit early still to see what's going to be happening in the end of February, but keep an eye out for shows via this site.

Posting again rather than editing my previous post, to bring this back up to the top. (also known as a bump.)

I got your email, Dennis. Unfortunately you've picked the one time of year I'm always out of town. I spend every March in England. Rolling Eyes Sad

Find Dave Zirbel. He is a great player and very busy. More than likely he has some gigs. You will enjoy his playing and a great guy.

Find David Phillips, another great player. He does all kind of gigs, from Polka to blues.

Find Bobby Black....not easy, but if he is playing about, you have to go hear him play. Google The Saddle Cats (a straight steel gig).

Richard Sinkler plays about the bay area and is a fine player as well.

Zirbel and Sinkler are regulars on the forum. David and Booby, not so much.

Outside of that it is rather hit or miss.

I don't have any gigs during that time but if you're in the north bay maybe we can get together. Josh Yenne has a gig on the 3rd of March and is in Petaluma. He gives lessons too. Here is his website:

Also Tim Marcus plays in SF quit a bit. He is a forum member.

Joe Goldmark has a monthly gig at the Riptide but looks like nothing on the calender when you're down here. Sad

Hi Dennis: This is Jeff Ferrasci and I am a Pedal Steel player in Walnut Creek, Ca; which is only about 15 miles from SF. I don't have a band I am playing with at the moment, but I do have over 40 years professional experience with local and national acts and could get together with you to run through some tunes, gear, anything. Just send me a private message or however you want to do it and see if we can cross paths.
