Was looking at online Steel Guitar Hall of Fame and expected to see his name up there with all of the other greats...looked twice but didn't see it. Did I just overlook it? Hope so.

I do not think you overlooked it. He is not in the hall of fame. IMO, Vance is one of the best steel players to live, up there with Buddy Emmons and Joaquin.

Not many folks know what Vance did I guess. A new freind of mine who has recently been turned on to the Brisbane Bop recordings, went into Steel Guitar Nashville asking about Vance and nobody there had heard of him. I know if Bobbe was there that day, that would not have been the case. Needless to say he was shocked.

I agree the Brisbane Bop sessions were way ahead of their time...especially regarding Vance's performance. Keep in mind it was recorded live....in the 60's...in a club....wow....Bobby Caldwell turned me on to it. I thnik the circumstances of life (the draft) kept him out of the mainstream back in the day...Yeah he should be in the HOF

Vance Terry has previously been nominated and is therefore still in contention for future induction.

When I was around the Bay Area around 1952 to 1955 Vance was playing with Billy Jack Wills out of Sacramento. I can remember hearing Radio Shows with this Band from a strong Sacaramento Station. Tiny Moore was playing fiddle and Mandolin along with a trumpet player. They had some great three part arrangements along with their solos. I wonder if any of these radio shows were ever transcribed. Vance was knocking everybody out with his playing.

Don't know if the radio shows were recorded, but there are two Billy Jack Wills CDs available that have Vance and Tiny all over them.

"Billy Jack Wills & His Western Swing Band" -- the album that turned me on to Vance Terry and led me to Brisbane Bop.

and "Billy Jack Wills & His Western Swing Band -- Crazy, Man, Crazy"

This is a little off the subject, but does anyone know what happened to that 19 0r 20 pedal Sierra steel he had? I have a publication with a small picture in it with him playing that steel. I also have some recordings of him on old cassette tapes. He had a monster talent & was quite creative.

Bill and Billy T.,
I believe the Billy Jack Wills recordings "Western Swing Band " and Crazy man Crazy are from the radio shows they did. From what I heard when they were on the road , the radio station would play those recordings. I have a recording somewhere of the other radio transciptions that did not make on the "Western" or "Joaquin" label record.
