Topic: Ten Band EQ pedal -- anyone use one of these? |

Is anyone else using a MXR Ten Band EQ pedal (or something similar) with PSG? I just bought one and would like to hear how others are using it and liking it.
Where do you put it in the signal chain?
Do you cut your amp EQs all the way down?
How are you liking it overall?

I havn't used this particular EQ pedal but I have used various others. I would usually connect it first out of the voulme pedal. You are going to want to leave your amp EQ's at 12 o'clock.

I just started experimenting with a Dano 7 band eq pedal I picked up on Craigslist.
My approach is to set my Twin Reverb for the sound I like with the C6 neck and then set the eq pedal to give a little more sparkle and twang to the E9 neck. The amp looks like this:
T - 1:00 o'clock
M - 12:00 o'clock
B - 12:00 o'clock
Bright switch - Off
On the pedal I pull 800hz pretty much out and boost the bottom and extreme top end a little. I am running the eq out of the volume pedal like this: VP > EQ > overdrive > delay > amp. But I may put it after the OD to see if I can shape the OD sound a little better. So far I like it in my music room at moderate volume. I'll be trying it out at stage volume this weekend. |

Tim....
I am using a Dano {fish & chips} EQ . All my stomp boxes I run thru the effects send/return ,while the volume goes from guitar straight to amp .
The Dano is set to where it gives a very nice boost and clarity to the rig .
I have a good selection of strictly Dano pedals , love the small size and they are the right sound for me .

I own both the MXR 10 band eq and the MXR 6 band eq, and find plus's and minus's for both, i have several different MXR pedals, cos i like the build quality and quiet operation, so i am an MXR fan.
re 10 band eq, it requires 18v,so wont work on batteries like all [or most] 9v pedals,i use the dunlop power brick to power mine, i like having a volume slider, but dont see the need for a gain slider as well, as its only a second volume slider and not an overdrive, it handles different frequencies to the 6 band eq, and to my ears, the two lower and the two upper frquencies are inneffective on guitar and E9th steel, so i prefer the 6 band pedal for setting the tone, but i miss not having a volume slider on the 6 band eq, also i want my eq pedal at close hand to my steel guitar, and the 6 band eq will run for months on a single 9v battery, so no trailing power leads necessary, MY VERDICT? i prefer the MXR 6 BAND EQ apart from the lack of volume slider,

| Tried the EQ pedal on a gig last night and am very pleased with the results. It allowed me to fine tune my tone. Went from good tone to great tone - mainly by cleaning up just bit of mud in certain frequencies. I really enjoyed the way the notes really shine forth and I can add more expression when I can hear them so clearly. I was worried that noise would be a problem but not so. EQ will be a permanent part of my rig from now on. |

Tim,
Is your pedal a Danelectro Fish and Chips 7-Band EQ? I'm new to this stuff and just want to be sure.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm liking what my 10-band EQ does for my Fender Bassman.

Yes Tommy - it is the Fish n Chips pedal. Got it for $15 on Craigslist. So far so good.
My next experiment will be to see if I can recreate some Noel Boggs and Leon MacAuliffe tones from vintage steel guitar recordings that have been tantalizing me for years. |
