Thanks to you all for your responses. I should know this, but I'm unclear about what the "gap" is -- is that the narrow passage where the BW magnet fits into the speaker?

Also, where was the original foam? Was it against the metal grate on the magnet or against the silver part of the speaker?

Hey Boo, The gap is the part of the magnet structure that the coil on the cone fits into. The foam goes in the magnet structure...the hole is actually an air vent where the foam is placed. It must be glued in place to prevent it being sucked towards the voice coil.

Unless you are experienced in doing this, I'd advise gluing it to the back of the magnet over the hole. (much easier to do) The effect will be the same. Just make sure the foam you use passes air easily. It's simply a dust filter.
