Did my first show with Gene last Fri. in south Louisiana. I think the nerves have finally settled down just a little, but the old butt is still puckered up Smile

All kidding aside, it was incredible. The sold out crowd, 1800+, was digging him, and the vast majority of them were at least my age (50+) yelling like kids. It is an unbelievable privilege to be working for him, especially when I think of the great steel players who have held that seat before. I was hoping Cox would have left all his cheat notes as well as lots of advise on the ceiling of the bunk. Smile

The band is killer, and really nice guys to boot. We leave tonight for Midland/Odessa for a package show tomorrow night (Tue) with Ray Price. Nothing like baptism by fire.

Hi Danny, This is your old seat/Crown dispenser friend from the Bear Creek saloon gig when you were with Johnny Lee. Great to hear you are with Gene now, got to be one of the best steel gigs out there. You are a fine player and that gig should bring out your best.
Where were you in Louisiana? Shoot me an email if you get back down this way.
thanks,
Billy

I am going to purchase tickets for this show when it comes to Lancaster, PA. So now that I am aware of who is playing steel for Gene's show, can you tell me who is playing for Ray's portion?

Thank You,
Mike Weaver

Danny you always do a great job so you & Gene will be a good pair. Just watch out for the cruise ships.
Mike it should be Jim Loessberg with Ray unless they made a recent change.

Gene has a lot of steel friendly tunes so you'll have a lot of fun working for him.

BTW- Thanks for getting me the gig with Scott Whitaker. It was fun and the guys played their butts off.

Danny, that feeling that you had when you were playing Friday night is the same one I had every show with Gene. It never leaves. That 75 minutes on stage is what it's all about.
BTW, Chip has a book with some notes.

Of all the gigs I would like to have, that would be my first choice. But like I told Danny and Johnny Cox on Facebook, I would find myself sitting there just listening to Gene's voice and forget my parts. And, if I got lucky enough to play with Gene when he was doing a duet with Rhonda Vincent, well, let's just say my heart wouldn't be able to take it.

Thanks for the comments guys. It IS a treat to say the least. No BIG screwups last night Richard, but FP was still a little "un-smooth". It did not help the nerves that Price was standing about 20 feet behind me, in full sight of the clam light Smile

It was another sold out show, 1800+. Gene sang great even with a sore throat. Ray's show was awesome. Brought in an 11 piece string section to back Dale Jr, and the other 2 fiddles. Loessberg's tone was killer, running his Emmons PP thru an old Standel. And yes Ben, Jim is on all of Ray's shows and will be there in PA.

Yeah, my butt is still puckered up Smile

PS We're at the Cajun Cowboy club in Omaha, TX (east TX) Friday night. It'll be a relief to do a club date with him for a change.

No song un-nerves me more than Farewell Party. I get it right maybe 75% of the time. But, that 25% that I don't get really hurts (ego and ears).
