[UPDATE: the electric guitar rock solo lesson, in addition to the lesson from this original posting, is uploaded here ]

Happy New Year All!

Just blew out my last lesson for 2011, it's based on the Hotel C6lifornia classic rock guitar solo that I transcribed for C6 non pedal steel a couple years ago.

I've included the TAB for the ending arpeggios of the solo in this new lesson, so it should give some of you something to practice going into what should be a fantastic 2012!

Here's the link to the lesson page:

Hope you enjoy it, and see improvements to your slants in the process!

Happy New Year to all, and Hau'oli Maka Hiki Hou!

Josh

I've just uploaded a lesson that takes anyone interested in ROCK steel through the first 8 bars of the Hotel C6 / Hotel California electric guitar solo

You'll be dazzled by the Dmajor/Bm pentatonic scale patterns that flow ever so elegantly on a C6 tuned non pedal steel.

Hook up your distortion box, then check out the lesson and phrase-by-phrase TAB score here:

Hope you enjoy,

Josh

Hi Josh,
Very creative. I can tell this musical interpretation has been a labor of love. Like you, I love the high G C6th tuning for the lap steel. As you mention, it works for a wide variety of musical styles. Thanks for promoting the lap steel, and I hope you have a great New Year.

Hey Chuck,

Thanks so much for the New Year's wishes, same to you and yours!

I'm glad you liked the solo, too, if there's enough interest, I'll keep going with this particular topic. Smile

Best wishes,

Josh

Great stuff Josh. A couple years ago you did a brief video of Statesboro Blues on C6. Any chance of getting a portion of that tabbed out? At the very least it would SHOW players interested in blues that C6 can be adapted to that style of playing too.

C6 is an awesome tuning for Rock and Blues, although I know not many people want to believe it.

Hey thanks so much for the feedback Stephen, I'll be adding Statesboro Bluesto the list of lesson licks over at the newsletter!

But Brian, as to Smoke on the Water.....hehehe, not too sure about that one...
