I thought I would share this. Santa didn't bring me much but what 'she' me got was a good one....an Apple iPad. I have always had PCs but it has been a love-hate relationship since I left Mac in the 80's. My friend, a jazz guitarist was down to visit last week and he had an application on his iPhone called 'iReal B' [used to be iReal Book but the manufacturer had to dodge some copyright problems]. Anyway we plugged his iPhone into my PA and we selected from a long list of jazz standard tunes (with many more on the way on lots of styles...rock, latin, fusion, etc), set up the tempo, rhythm style and key...and voila. The accompaniment was programmable and the chord chart on the screen was simple and clear (as well as printable). For anyone who has an iPhone, iPad or Android phone IMHO this software is the best thing since sliced bread...all for a ridiculous price of us$7.99!! This app alone made the iPad worthwhile for me since as a pianist for accompaniment I can almost leave my books at home and play Lush Life in the key of B major if the singer 'needs' it there!! It may not replace your Band In A Box since the country repertoire currently available may be a bit limited but that is probably only a matter of time......

Hi Bob - I have not tried to use the editor yet and have just used some of the 1200+ practice tracks I downloaded from the iRB forum as 'accompaniment' and as 'transposable' chord charts. This app in it's current form has it's limitations to be sure but as a practice tool and for quick access to simple chord charts on the fly it is what I always hoped for in a program. I am sure subsequent versions will extend the editing tools to make it comparable with BIAB....but in your phone???? The accompaniment generated does not sound too phoney either. |
