Up for sale is a 1963 Gretsch 6159 "Dual Bass" amp. Like all of Valco's bass amps, this one is a superb guitar amp and a mediocre bass amp. The amp was serviced a couple of years ago by a previous owner; aside from the usual caps and a couple of tubes, it's 100% original and very clean. It has the original 2-prong cord.
The 6159 puts out 35-37W (depending on which year's Gretsch catalog you read) through two Jensen C12PS speakers. It's loud enough to do medium-sized gigs with, but not rip-your-face-off loud. It has the typically crystaline cleans of a big '60s Valco amp, with a great mid-rangey overdrive when turned up. The "guitar-accordion" channel has the famous Valco tremolo (yes, a bass amp with trem), while the "bass" channel is a bit beefier and great for leads. Both channels have two distinct-sounding inputs, creating a wide range of possible tones.
The amp takes two 6L6s (JJs), a 5U4 rectifier (original RCA) and four 12AX7s (one JJ, three original RCAs). The only schematic available on the net shows a diode rectifier, but that's a later version of this amp. The amp is in remarkably clean condition, with just a little damage to the lettering on the grill. It's completely free of noise and idles silently.
The local price is $700 cash; add $65 for shipping and Paypal fees. Not really looking for trades.
