Jeff, I talked to Paddy earlier and he is fine. Fortunately the latest 5.8 quake was 20kms offshore so damage was minimal although some more liquifaction has happened in places. All the best for Xmas...Ivan

hey guys thanks for the concern, yes yesterday afternoon around 2pm we got hit with a 5.8 then a 6.0 quake -- we had been about 6 months or so without any major aftershocks (well above about 3.0) so we were all starting to relax a bit ...then Whammo ! As Ivan said fortunately it was about 20 kms off the beach, I'm about 1 Km from the beach but suffered minimal damage to my already bruised house ...a few photos fell off the walls etc and broke, I only just put them all back up about 3 weeks ago ! main thing is no one was hurt, there is a fair bit of this liquefaction in areas that had already been hit by it in the last quakes, and some areas that have already been condemned got flooded again etc.. airport was closed for a while and a few shopping malls that were in the full swing of xmas shopping were evacuated ! As you can imagine we are a bit over all this shaking ....still having little swarms of aftershocks which are like a convoy of trucks rumbling past your bedroom window hehe !!

Otherwise Xmas is upon us so I hope you all have a great festive season and New year ... My Zums are safe and it's beer o'clock !
