Nice one. Priced about $700 more than I sold my near-mint bakelite for a few years ago.

Always have been but they do have some amazing stuff as does RetroFret. I wish I'd kept my bakelite. Don't know what I was thinking. The guitar I bought to replace it is long gone.

I saw a pair of these in a Guitar Centre a couple of years ago for $800 apiece. I was pretty broke at the time so i couldn't get even one of them. Maybe it was three years ago; as I recall the recession was in full swing and there were a lot of vintage instruments turning up at great prices. Now that the economy is a little better the prices have gone back up.

I've noticed in recent videos that Megan Lovell seems to be playing lap steel a lot lately, with what looks to be a bakelite Rick.

For comparison, her sister Rebecca's Paul Duff F5 mandolin has been discussed a whole lot on the Mandolin Cafe board. Those start at $8500.

A matter of perspective I guess. If I had a yard care service, I doubt I'd balk at a $2000 lawnmower. When you use something to make your living, it's a little different.

And Mandolin Brothers likely hasn't stayed in business all this time without a good idea of what the market will bear.

That guitar may be a later model than described, since it has the white outlined frets. The white covers have the look of the plastic types used at the beginning of WW 2. Maybe 1942 (?)

Anyway it's a nice one ! Very Happy I love bakelites ! Very Happy
