I actually like this song as a piece of music but this really bothers me on two levels: first, a rich Hollywood actor singing about financial struggles while so many people are genuinely struggling seems crass and insulting. On a much less important front, the band clearly uses a pedal steel but the clip shows him playing a Stringmaster - and ok -to add a third thing, this is a particularly smirky/smarmy lip sink performance. Your mileage may differ. |

I think the whole thing is a put-on. I wouldn't take it too seriously. |

There was a thread of epic proportions here on the forum about this right after it happened. He's an unusual guy, that's for sure. I heard him say on "Fresh Air" that he has a phobia of old furniture. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

At one time he was a poor working musician, OK a drummer, when he first came out to LA. I'm not sure why some folks think that if he has money now, after years of being a starving artist, that he can't sing about being poor.
I sing quite a few murder ballads, but I sure ain't going to go a out and kill someone, just so people knew I was singing from experience.
Also the video is supposed to be a spoof of a band on a show like American Bandstand, where no one plugged in, played the wrong instruments, and lip synced. _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm

I've met BBT and spent some time hanging out at his home studio for a music project a couple years ago. I found him to be real down to earth,a family man,a great storyteller and he has a genuine love for what most of us would consider the best of the best americana artists and music styles. He's definately "in the Billy Bob Thornton bidness" but he's an actor at heart and he kinda plays a part half the time so like Bob Dylan,a lot of what he slings out there for public consumption is a harmless contrivance for his own amusement. You either get it or not. Anyone who has a concrete Brontasaurus spewing water in his backyard fountain is cool w/me. I like him. |

Ok. Fair enough. Maybe I had a knee jerk reaction based on misperception. Will re-open mind. |
