Here's my idea for E9 tuning, 3 pedals, 0 levers.

It's a compromise, and open to constructive criticism.

I've changed the open tuning on strings 2 and 7 to D (usually Eb) and F (usually F#) respectively.

The 'C' pedal takes on the task usually performed by the 'E' lever, and the 'F' lever notes are incorporated in with the usual 'A' pedal notes, giving a major or minor chord (but no seventh), depending on which strings are picked.

The open tuning gives a seventh (because the 2nd string is tuned to D), and pedals A and B down position also has a seventh, courtesy of the 1st string raise to G.

Richard, I like your ideas, save one. Raising the first along with the B pedal? Huh?
I play 1 a LOT more as F# even pedals-down than I do G. As an A chord, the VI tone is more useful, and once you drop the Es to D# and play that B7 chord, you don't have a V tone up high.
Yeah, that G has a lot of uses, but not as much as the F#. Besides, the first string is so easy to finger-pull to G or G#.
7th string: why F?
Other than that, I'd say you came up with something more useful than I'd'a done.

Good point about pulling up the first string with a finger on your bar hand, Lane.
I'd forgotten about that, even though it's something that I do now and again Very Happy

The 7th string is F, and 2nd is raised to F, because it allows the major chord (three frets up position) when strings 5 and 10 are raised a tone. To play the minor, use strings 4 and 8 instead of 2 and 7.

I have a Sho-Bud Maverick that I keep at my sister's house for jamming. It has 2 pedals and 1 knee lever (LKL). The same copedent would work with 3 pedals.
Tab:
     LKL  P1  P2
F#
D#
G#            +A
E    +F
B        ++C#
G#            +A
F#
E    +F
D
B        ++C#

Another idea would be C6th:
Tab:
     P1   P2   P3
G
E         +F
C             ++D
A             ++B
G    -F#
E         -Eb
C
A
F    +F#
C   ++D

Im a Sacred Steeler and my MSA is setup to 2 raisers and 1 lower. A pedal raises the 3rd string, B pedal raises the 4th string, and the C pedal lowers the 5th string. I don't know if I can change the setup because Im new to the pedal steel game. I've had this steel for 6-7yrs but just got pedals some months ago. Its kinda old so Im trying to be careful setting it up. Im open to any advice and opinions. Thanks in advance!!!

If that's a Classic and not a Sidekick/Red Baron, you can have several pulls on each pedal, and if your guitar is already drilled for more rods, you can add several knees.
Michael Yahl, a Forumite, can sell you everything you need at psgparts.com and he provides great service.

I have a 1974 MSA Semi-Classic and the pedals won't stay in tune. I'll tune the pedals then the tuning neck would come out of tune.

Are you talking about how to tune those three pedals or which pedal changes are best for them? If its the second part.....The standard A, B and C pedals are proven winners.

You say that you bought the parts to hook up the parts from Michael Yahl. I'll assume you did the installation and setup yourself.

First (BTW, Tab told me he'd spent a couple years on his BMI before he learned about this step, so n00bs can be excused), you tune the open strings at the keyhead, tune the changes with the nylon nuts.
If you tune the string, then the change, and then the open string returns sharp, you did not allow enough travel between stops on the cross rod. You will need to loosen the set screw that tighten the stop, and move the stop a bit to allow more travel. If you don't want to do that, especially since you only pull one string (why you did that, heaven only knows), you could "speed up" the pull by moving the barrel to a hole on the bellcrank farther away from the rod. This will move the changer finger and the string farther with the same pedal travel.

Yes sir, I bought them from Mr. Yahl and put them on. The steel is very old and the part under the steel is starting to tear up and rust, so now I play without pedals again. I will bring my steel home from church tonight and set the pedals up to let you guys know what pedals pull what strings. Thanks for the advice.

That sounds wrong. Each pedal only moves 1 string? On most 10-string steel guitars, each pedal moves two strings.

What tuning are you using?

The guy took the rods off because they were really old, so I only have 3 rods under. But, I will get the tuning for you soon hopefully.
