Topic: need help with aluminum polishing |

| i just got in a beautiful shobud pro 3 , 36 or 37 years old, but the aluminum neck between the fretboard and the pickup has some 20 year old adhesive from concert tickets. i have not been able chemically to get it off, as its hard as a rock. ive used acetone, polishing compound, etc. would the next step be to take the neck off and grind it off, then polish the aluminum back to a mirror? how do i get the aluminum neck off? any suggestions are appreciated. ricky davis, help! |

Have you tried Goo-Gone, Tony? Goo-Gone works slowly, but it will take off most adhesives. It won't hurt the finish. Put some GG on a gauze pad or a cotton ball. Tape the pad in place and leave it for a couple of hours. The top layer of adhesive should get soft enough to remove.
After the glue is off, repolish with Simichrome or Mother's.

| I had forgotten about goo gone, but it is good stuff. This stuff has the consistency of dried mortor mix, but if i leave it soaking it might work. Thanks |

| it worked ! well, mostly. goo gone and elbow grease and simichrome got 90 % off. whats left is actually etching i think. but i think a few repeats will take care of that. thanks! i also broke a pot metal thing where the pedal bracket hooks to, but luckily i had the part and put it on. |

Lighter fluid (Naphtha) might work as well on the glue. It evaporates very fast, so I dont think it will do much if any harm to the aluminum.

| Goo Gon, alcohol, Acetone, lighter fluid, Dawn dish washing detergent, WD-40 and one more. Certain gums and glues will soften and can be romoved with "PEANUT BUTTER" Just cover the problem area and let is set a while. It is the best thing to break chewing gum and bubble gum down to get it out of a kids hair I ever found. Good Luck on your clean up and polish job. |

I am typing in all caps for a reason.. It was recommended to me and it works better than you can imagine. I did the end-plates on my D10 .. I have only had to use it once

For the glue goo.. goo begone or there is an orange scented cleaner than dissolves it..
as to chewing gun in the hair.. try ice cubes |
