Fender 400 that belonged to a California player "Ernie" ????. Any Bay Area pickers know who this might have been?

Purchased years ago and owned ever since by John Campbell, father of the Webb Amplifier. Serial number 89600. The spring clips on the pedals need attention, but other than that it appears to be in really good shape. I have not set it up or played it, but can. The case is in excellent condition, but check out the artwork on the front apron. $800 plus shipping.

Hello Jim,

How are you?
Really nice looking little axe.
If it is anything like the ZB student model I received from you it will make someone very happy.
After approximately one years time I gave my friend back his money because he did not have time to spend learning pedal steel. The little ZB now has a nice home on St Thomas Island with a happy picker who appreciates having that good looking, nice playing instrument.
Good Luck with your sale. God Bless

Loren

It doesn't have a roller nut, so I'm guessing it's probably a '58 or '59 model.

Thanks for the feedback. A while back I saw a summary of serial numbers by date in one of the vintage guitar mags. I'll dig it up and see what it says. I'll check for a roller nut and post a photo on Saturday. I'm also wondering if there's anything in the case or on the guitar that might indicate who Earnie really is. Like I said, interesting guitar.

Bob I think you are right about 58 or 59, I bought one new in '60 in San Diego ( course I was only 3 months old at the time!! ha ha ) and it didn't have the rollers.

Finally got a chance to open the case. Looks like you guys are correct, no rollers. That should make it 58 or 59 and serial#00968.

This guitar belonged to Ernie J Costa from Pittsburg California. Found his name and address inside one of the legs. Although not a receipt, found a slip of paper rolled up in another leg with Ernies name, WEBB Music, and the date 1961.

Anyway, the guitar is sold, so b0b - please close this one up. Donation on it way.
