Topic: Shorter leg length |

| I am new the the pedal steel world and need to shorten my legs (3 or 4 inches/10 centimeters). I suppose I can just take a hack saw and cut the larger (upper) section at the bottom end and find someone to re-cut the threads. Or maybe it's just simpler to find someone who sells new legs who can make them the correct length? Any help is much appreciated. |

Someone should chime in here. If not, try to find my topic "For ladies only", as there were a number of suggestions for altering leg and pedal rod lengths.

Hi Brent,
If you have a good machine shop near you, they can do it.
You want it done right, and all they have to do is knock
out the threaded end peice, then cut the legs to desired
length in a lathe. Put the threaded peices in the freezer
while cutting the legs. Heat up the legs, put a nut on the
threaded peices and drive them back in with a hammer and a
block of wood or hard rubber between the thread and hammer.
Do not cut the legs with a hack saw or tubing cutter.
I had legs done and rods cut and rethreaded. Total was $35.00
Hope this helps. It's not a real big job.

| There may be an advantage in buying a new set of shorter legs. Cutting the current legs may affect the resale value of the guitar. Keep them, and get another set of shorter ones. When you decide to sell the guitar, include the original legs, and keep the shorter legs to use with the next guitar. Also get pedals rods to match the new legs. |
