Hi guys, I'm lookin for help. I play The steel Guitar since 1987 and think to be a "medium quality" player but I'm now in front of a very hard change. I must compose 2 complete part for a friend home recording. I learned lot of difficult sg parts and play those every time on The stage but is a complete different thing to compose one. So i try to fine help here. Does anybody of you have time to do this for me? Does anybody of you Will to do this instead of play always The same songs? If anybody would help me please send me a mail on my private address and I Will send Him the mp3 file to work with. Thank you in advance to every friend who want to try. eugenio..does your friend want you to put some steel guitar parts on an existing song, or does he want you to compose some instrumental pieces?
if you're adding to his songs it can be fairly logical to just sweeten his songs with some pretty parts that you can make up..playing inbetween lyrical phrases. you can keep it very simple and melodic and stick to his chord patterns.
if, however. you are trying to compose a whole instrumental tune then it a little harder and you must try to get an overall shape and sound that pleases you. if this is the case you will get lots of different approaches from people on this forum. some may have ideas for you and some may want to do it for you....but i think you should just try to come up with your own ideas and do it yourself. even some simple ideas can be good as long as you can play sweetly and melodically. good luck...this could help you progress to a higher level of skill just by trying. |

Listen to the music without a steel and see if you can sing what you would like to hear, then figure out how to play what you sang... |

Daves' suggestion is right on.Don't get in the habit of attempting to do what someone else HAS DONE.........
Instead, establish you own playing one measure at a time. Good Luck and Merry Xmas! |

Eugenio, remember you are playing a very unique instrument....the psg is like a guitar that can play many, many inversions of the chord progressions of the songs to be recorded.
Sit at your steel and work your way through the songs' chord strucures, and listen to where you can add that "sweet" thing that only a psg can do... then your parts will come to you.. let your guitar talk to you first, and then you can add that to the mix.
Wow, Ray Montee, my old friend Chris, and my Northwest psg friend Dave G..... what a nice grouping of steel players.
All the best to you Eugenio. _________________ Dave Wren
