Topic: POD XT into Protools pre |

I get a good sound in my headphones and studio monitors with my POD XT however when I record though the Protools LE preamp it sounds not so good.(I'm running 7.4 with the Blue 2nd generation pre)
seem like using the 2 preamps just mucks everything up.
any thoughts or suggestions.I'm stuck with the preamp because of protools and my older g4 mac running 10.4 limits my options as far as amp sim plugins etc |

A lot of the "inexpensive" interface units do not have very good preamps or analog to digital converters - not all but a lot of them do.
Can you record at 44.1Khz, 24 bits (does the MAudio unit you have have 24 bit capability and does PT 7 have that capability?). If you are recording at a higher bit rate that might help.
I did a google search but could not come up with a PT 7 LE recording interface compatibility chart. But it does appear that choice is very limited, compared to the full PT7 or later versions.

Thanks Jack I have the Focusrite pre as opposed to the Maduio.Not sure about the bit rate.
I'm recovering from a broken leg and am as yet unable to make it down the stairs to my studio.
I did look at the IK fender amp plugin.My computer will handle it.still have to use the cheesy preamp but might be an improvement.
Anyone using IK fender with the protools pre? |

| Hey Rich, are you using an mBox? I have the original mBox with the Focusrite pres, and I find them to be pretty good. I certainly don't hear a drastic difference between running my steel through the PodXT and straight to the mixer versus going through the pres into Pro Tools and then to the mixer - it should sound about the same. Are you setting the inputs to Inst level or Line? |

thanks for the replies guys.
I have been using Mbox1 and recently upgraded to Mbox2.
As far as I know there is no way to bypass them.
I have tried both the instrument and line in.any recommendations on that?
I do have trouble getting a strong signal into protools and often have to add gain.I can easily get more signal in but struggle with balance in my headphones when recording.low signal or not though I'm never happy with the tone after recording and have to do allot of re EQ to get even a half decent sound. |

| On your PodXT, make sure the output is set to Studio Direct. Then turn the output volume knob all the way up. Try setting the inputs on the mBox to Line - you should get a pretty healthy signal. If not, set it to Inst and it will boost the gain even more. |
