Absolutely the right place for this. Haven't seen BB live in several years, but I have seen fairly recent concert footage of him. He was sitting down, but sang and played just fine.

There are lots of recent videos on youtube like this one from June of this year - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQSFS3QXXis

Smile Hi Dave . My son surprised me a few years ago and took me to a B.B. King concert at the Polaris Amphitheater here in Columbus . I think B.B. said he was 70 years old then . I am thinking that was around 10 years ago , please educate me on this if i am wrong ! I must say he did a great concert then . I am wondering how old he is at this time , i may be wrong about when this was ? In '' MY '' opinion he is the greatest blues player of all time . I know others will disagree with me and thats ok with me . We all have our opinions right ? Laughing

I was at BB's 70th birthday concert in NYC--hard to believe it was 16 years ago. He opened for Miles Davis. He is a force of nature.

Yeah, BB is a force of nature, for sure. He can say more with one note that thousands of wannabees who, I'm convinced, must think they're getting paid by the note. Winking

I've seen him many times in the last 40 years, and hope to again soon. Those videos tell me he still kicks butt.

I was playing the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage fest some years ago. The next act behind us was B. B. King. Needless to say I hung around backstage for his show. What a day that was. Very Happy

I've seen him a few times and that is what always impressed me. His band comes out first and plays for a while; his guitarist is a technically fine player, but when BB hit the stage, he lets one note ring out of that 335, straight up out a Lab Series amp that most of us wouldn't even consider using for a blues amp, it goes right through your soul, practically making you buckle at the knees. Amazing. A force of nature is as good of an analogy as I could think of for his playing. Well said. Smile

I got to go back stage and meet B.B King in 1987 or 88. If I remembercorrectly his was the last act to play the Venetian Room at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. It was definitely a high point in my life. This was immediately after the show, he was still toweling off. He opened his jacket, took off his tie, and began to just talk to people. After spending a good 20 minutes with about 15 other people who were invited back stage, he spent another 15 minutes with my friend, who pitched him on a benefit concert she was organizing. I was totally blown away that he would give her this much time immediately after a 90 minute set. A true gentleman and humanitarian.

Webb, I agree. He's the REAL deal. One note from his guitar is worth ten from other players. He just oozes soul. Love his gravel voice. He can make the hair stand up on ther back of your neck when he sings a blues story. Hits you right in the heart.

I'm such a fan of BB King that I have a "Lucille" AND a "Little Lucille".
How many of you have even seen or played a "Little Lucille"?

Erv,I'm stumped.Could a "Little Lucille" be something like a CS-356 with ES-355 cosmetics?

EDIT:Might be a bit of a hijack, but I can't help thinking about B.B.'s reputation compared to that of his contemporary Chuck Berry.

Dave,
Gibson used to make a guitar called the "Blueshawk" if I'm not mistaken. It is on the same order as a Les Paul only semi hollow. BB liked the guitar and had Gibson build him one to his specifications like the full blown "Lucille". I'll try to post a picture.
