| My Rittenberry SD 10 doesn't have any of these allen set screws. Can anyone tell me the size of it and can you get it at a hardware store? Thanks Charlie |

Can't you take one from your D10 to the hardware store and match them up? I'm sure all of the one's on the D10 aren't being used. Of course, you could just borrow one from the D10. I am assuming you still have the D10.

IIRC, only one size of standard set screw takes the 7/64 Allen key. I'd measure the length and take the wrench to the hardware store if the right answer ain't here by morning.

MY guess is whoever owned it before you, didn't what they were for and took them off.

Good luck finding finished socket head screws at Lowes or any of the generic hardware stores. Most hdwe. stock is black phosphate or possibly zinc plate. They are probably stainless, or at least nickel or chrome plated from the mfg., probably your best option. They might well be a custom length as well.
Yes, be sure you have the right thread size or you'll have a real repair mess on your hands. They could be metric or SAE in various thread pitches. Hard to tell with the naked eye in those small sizes. A competent hardware clerk should be able to match 'em up if you have one to compare. Maybe even have a thread gauge, better option. |

I find Ace hardware and Orchard Supply to be the best. They have stainless everything (well, maybe not everything). Most of them have a board with different thread sized bolts and nuts mounted on it for you to help get the right one.

Bobby, you're probably right on there. Try a 6-32 for fit. Try starting one with light finger pressure. If it's too big, it wont start. If it's too small it'll slip in the hole

Upon further review..the length for the set screw was too short. Went back and got 1/4 longer and the split tunes up great now. The proper length measures 1" total...1/4 longer than I pulled out of the D-10. Yeah Bo stainless.
Also the pull road retainers were too big I got some that said 4/40 and they fit the rod nicely
Got 2 more screws for other split tunings..any suggestions?

What changes do you have on your guitar now? The only SPLITS I know of being used on E9th are the 5th strig (maybe 10) with B-Bb lever and A pedal to get a C note, and string 6 with B pedal and lever lowering 6 to F# to get a G note.

Richard, on my Zumsteel, there is 1 on the ninth string create the feel stop for the second string.
I am about to put 1 on my second string to combine with RKR and the P0 raise to get me another D (It's not the note; it's how you got there and what you do with it).
Sorta a Robert Randolph inspired blues thing: pedal 1&2 up to unison with 3 and 4, then use the knee to pull the E down to a dominant 7.
Does anyone know if Bruce uses the same size screw?

Richard, on the Zum, the split tuning set screw is part of the half stop.
Step 1: tune strings two and 9.
Step 2: tune the 2nd string C# with the nylon nut
Step 3: tune 2nd string D with NINTH string nylon nut
Step 4: tune ninth string C# with ninth string set screw
I plan to try out that way tomorrow night at the jam. I will let you know the results

I've got a vertical lower on 5 so Im gonna try a split there to get a C with the A Pedal.
