| I use one with a back rest when I play drums. I've never tried it with steel, but it should be very comfortable. For gigging, I'd miss the storage of a pac-a-seat. |

The Storage Steelers Seats have only one height. I thought having an adjustable might be a good thing. It's for only this reason I'm considering something other than a Steel Seat.

Gary I build steelseat and offer adjustable legs on all models.
they are leveling type of dual purpose up to 1 3/4" adjustable plus they work on stages that are not level

I've always been convinced it's always good to sit at the same height at the steel- once you figure it out, it's nice to have a seat the exact right height.
We were talking about seats the other night at a gig and the drummer asked me if a typical drum throne wouldn't turn back and forth uncomfortably when using knee levers... I never thought about it since I've been using steel seats for 30 years... but seems like that might be a problem. |

I use a drum throne. Roc and Soc
Adjustable like and old time piano stool. And lockable once you find the height you like.
This one locks in place so it won't spin, if that is what you want.
Has a backrest.(optional of course)
It is just a very sturdy comfy seat. It does not store anything!
That's what a small duffel bag is for.

Roc & Soc also has a hydraulic, but that one may swivel. (Not sure)
The locking feature would be the model to choose. |

I have had a couple customers that have different height steels which is the reason they ordered.
Another one uses it for a keyboard which needs to be higher than when he plays steel.
Lots of reasons I guess. I have had several that say they got rid of their drum throne because a steelseat is more comfortable.
The cushion on my seats (standard) are firm - some like soft cushions. Everything has pluses and minuses - the trade off is firm cushions are better for Most Backs. The softer the foam the quicker will ware out but some people like a soft cushion.
Just things I have heard and read about foam and steelseats.
Customers are with seats just like other things - some like Fords and some like Chevys.
My 2 cents worth from what I have heard and read.

I used to use a Gretsch hydraulic drum throne for many years. The spinning of the seat was not a problem when using the knee levers. I only went to a steel seat when the hydraulic oil started leaking out of the drum stool.

Scott - I had not been on here for a while - but the adjustable leg inserts will not fit on standard seats, more correctly the legs would not fold up correctly.
I make special legs and have to mount them different also.
Now the seat heater - well since I live in the desert we need a seat chiller - I have been ask to line the inside to make an ice chest - does that count???
I have not been asked YET for the seat heater - most everthings you can think of ----- and More than most can think of.
I think I have more options than most if not all - and still get surprised what some ask for.

Sorry Joe, a cold butt ain't no good fer me. Now if you could work in a hand warmer on each side of the seat so we could warm our hands on those freezing outdoor gigs, you will make somewhere in the tens of dollars on your seats.

I have not been at this long enough to know that when EVERYONE wants one I ususally spend more developing the option that I make back in 5 years - but this must be fun because I keep doing it.
But after the 5 years I DO expect to make some where in the 10's of dollars.
