David Ball is coming to Morehead City December. Does anyone know if he has a steel player or who he is? _________________ Emmons LeGrande II D-10, Emmons LeGrande III D-10, Emmons LeGrande III S10, Boss Katana 100, Boss Katana 50, Nashville 112

I know Tommy White has recorded with David in the past. How cool would that be if Tommy was with him? |

David, who's an old friend from the 70's, played here in town a couple months ago, and he wasn't carrying a steel player. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

Typical BS. Steel is so up front on David's records. Personally, I think he is an average singer. But, the arrangements and the songs on his records were great. That secures him a spot in my mp3 player. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . No he does not. He does have a great guitar player and band so you won't be disappointed! I worked with him for 11 great years. By the way, mention to him that he needs a Steel and maybe he'll ask me to join the band!!! Enjoy the show! |

Don't think his show or music would be the same without the steel - think I will just pass on this show! If I am going to pay $25 bucks, I want to hear some pedal music. _________________ Emmons LeGrande II D-10, Emmons LeGrande III D-10, Emmons LeGrande III S10, Boss Katana 100, Boss Katana 50, Nashville 112

That's just the sign of the times.
A ton of the new music by Texas Music artists have steel all over their records, but they don't use a steel live.
Everyone is down to their basic 3-4 piece band |

David doesn't carry a steel player most of the time. We're having David at out Opry here in Texarkana on the 2nd of December and I get to play steel with him. Same night we also have Leona and Ron Williams and playing steel for them also.. I'll think I died and went to heaven playing for those three great singers.
That's Friday night, Dec 2nd folks. _________________ Henry Matthews

This practice has been around way before it became the so-called "economic necessity" excuse they all use these days.
Dumping the steel equals more money in someone else's pocket. Is that so hard to understand? |

Barry, that's exactly what just happened to me recently.
Band was offered a house band gig at $200 a piece if they kept it to five. I happened to be the 6th piece sooo... _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

$200 a piece? Wow, I've been living in the wrong state. When I lived in L.A. the steel was often referred to as the "floating fifth piece." |

$200, apiece, here in Texarkana, you're lucky if you get that for the whole band!!!!
Hey Dick, what's the other five pieces? Send the piano or rhythm guitar home. _________________ Henry Matthews

Yes,$200 per man Thursday,Friday and Saturday.
Henry, the band will have Lead,Piano,Drums,Bass, rhythm and they will have a rotating frontman each week.
Every local player I have talked to said it won't last but a few months due to the economy. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

Why in the heck do you need a rhythm guitar when you have a piano? A steel should be there!!!! _________________ Henry Matthews

Did I make a rhythm or piano player mad?
Seriously, you don't need a rhythm player when you have piano in the band, that is if the piano player plays rhythm. If he don't, then do away with piano and keep rhythm guitar.
We have bands here in town that have 2 rhythm players, a piano player and bass and lead guitar and drums and say they play country music. They may play country music but it doesn'r sound much like it.
It's time steel lovers and players stood up for their instrument to get it back into live country with every band. I make it well known around here that if you don't have steel and or fiddles in your band, then you ain't country.
And Bowie, I wouldn't go see him either if he had no steel. _________________ Henry Matthews

I agree with Bowie, I wont go to see him either.
When you hear an album and it has steel you expect to hear it in person. It is only 75 miles from me. |

I'm sure they're kicking themselves Dick. The joint still does not have its liquor license and opened last weekend BYOB with an acoustic thing. I imagine the guys might be wishing they hung onto their gigs for a bit longer.... |
