Topic: Weber Speakers, Etc? |

Is the 15" Weber NeoMag a good upgrade for light duty live and studio? I've been googling and Steel Forum searching and trying to narrow it down. The general drift seems to be K-120, E-130 and a few different models of Weber. If I recall, Green's studio preference was a Twin with 15" JBL.
I have two Session 400's, one Session 400 Limited and a Peavey 50/50 tube amp head with a couple of different preamp options to fit it. I can switch from my Black Widows to the prefered speaker when needed.
I also read that Weber will recone his speakers at a small cost.
I realize that we each have our own tone preferences.
Opinions?

| I had a Weber NeoMag 15 in my Twin and loved it. The sound is very JBL-like but warmer and smoother, as in less ice-picky. The Weber also has a very nice, more complex mid-range than the JBL D-130F I replaced. Sadly the Weber Neo 15 will only handle 70 watts and it did not do well in high volume live situations. It might be a good option for your studio applications, but I would not recommend it for live applications, especially with those high power Peavey amps. |

| I agree with Tim. I had the same speaker for my Twin and I thought it broke up a little too much. |

I am what my wife calls a speaker freak I have had two Standel amps,several Fender's Sho bud[ christmas tree] amp, Peavey Nashville and Vegas 400's 2Evans just about everything but a Webb and all kinds of speakers and I yet to find a speaker as effecient and tone worthy as JBL D,K,and E series speakers they will get the Nashville sound if you you can tweak your amp right BW speakers are real close but may take more power to get same volume and they have a more brittle and slightly harsher sound. I think most amps suffer tone loss at higher volumes. I prefer a good mike thru a PA system if you can find a sound man who knows what a steel should sound like. |

The Weber California 15 is a great speaker also.
Close to the JBL but able to handle more wattage. Heavier than a neo-mag. I have one in a Showman cabinet. I like the paper dome model as it does not have quite the treble of the metal dome. I believe they are rated at 80 watts. I also have two of the 12" mounted in a bandmaster cabinet. With a Showman head they sound incredible.

I have had a 15" California in a battered old Twin size cab for years... It is a very good speaker for steel and electric guitar as well.. Matter of fact, I recently had a guitar shop guy here to purchase most of my gear.. I told him he could have the cab with the original d130 JBL, but that I was keeping the cab with the Weber... bob
