Folks,,,if you missed the Jam In Wilson N.C. ya missed a good one, a Real pleasure to finally meet Jerry Hayes from Va. Beach, seein KD again, Arnett Mills, Ricky Hagen, and a room full of other fantastic folks. The Band Saturday was fantastic, and didn't miss a single note. if you dont know about the MASGA,,,,check out the web site at MASGA.org Thank you Ken, Glen and Ray for having us Down,,,,we wont be strangers, thats for sure. Ken,
Wow! Got to attend the MASGA Jam this weekend. My appreciation for letting me participate. Thanks to Ray and Deb Walker for their generous hospitality in letting me stay in their home. Got to meet some very nice people and listen to some great steel players. I finally got to meet Danny Blizzard and see Ricky Hagan, Chuck Campbell and Joe Smith again. It was well worth the 6 1/2 hour drive. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed it so much I became a member! Thanks again to everyone. Take care and God Bless.

It was our pleasure to have you here in the sunny South with no PA. snow. I will have pictures ready for the web site in the next couple of days.
The band was great!
We had players from Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, & North Carolina. Good steeling and fellowship!

Joe and Terry, Sam, and everyone else for making the long drive, and making the jam a great one. The drummer (Ken Dawson) and guitar player (Ronnie King) are in my band (The Country Roads Band - [url=http://www.thecountryroadsband.com),]www.thecountryroadsband.com),[/url] and I recruited Bill Lamm (vocals/bass) from the Nashville Rash band for the jam. I am glad you liked them...we received a lot of good comments. Enjoyed meeting and hearing everyone on Saturday; Sorry I could only stay a few minutes Sunday morning; a good friend of mine's wife died and the funeral was a three hour drive away and I attended that Sunday afternoon.

Hey Folks:
If you didn't make the Wilson NC Jam, I can honestly tell you. that you missed out. The MASGA had a fantastic Jam with a very good turn out of Steelplayers that traveled a long distance to be with us. The folks like Joe Sapp, Terry McCumbee, Chuck Campbell, ER Chandler, Joe Smith, Jerry Hayes, Arnett Mills, Sam White and his wife Anna sure made this Jam very special for me after they had to travel so far to be apart of this Jam.
I don't want to miss anyone but all our local folks made it very special too and I want to thank all the players and helpers that were considered local that made this jam a success also such Bowie Martin, Hank Williams, Larry Hilliard, Ricky Hagen, Allen Howington, Glen Lanning plus many others I know I am forgetting to mention someone at this time and I appologise for that.
It has already been mention about the super Band that backed up all of our steel players for many hours. A big thank you for Bowie Martin working this out for the MASGA to have them for Sat. It was just a great show and some beautiful music for two days!! Wow. I hated it had to come to a close.
I want to congratulate Ray Walker as the New president of the MASGA
ER Chandler as the new Vice President
Bowie Martin as the new Treasurer
Glenn Lanning as the new Secretary
A super group of Folks that will lead the MASGA through the next year and will carry the MASGA to the next level, with upgraded organization efforts to increase growth and promote programs for the steelguitar player and lovers of the Steelguitar to participate.
We would like to Thank everyone that attended or participated in any way to help make this event a success that it was.

Well....well...what can I say that hasn't already been said. A great turn-out and some real great steel playing. The jam went smooth as silk and the band did a fantastic job...Bowie...you're a lucky guy to be steelin with such a good group. I had the opportunity to do a little singing and it just don't get better for a singer than when he has great players backing him or her up. I want to say thanks to all of you guys who had a part in making this all possible. A lot of the guys and gals did a lot of traveling to get here and that always makes it so much more special.
Finally I want to say a heartfelt Thank You all for trusting in me to head up this fine organization as the President for the next year. I will do my best to maintain the honor and integrity upon which we were founded and will work hard to make each and every event something you will enjoy and talk about for a long time. Ken Latchum has been the club's President many times and I know there were those times when it appears to be a thankless job....but that said...Ken always got his thanks from hearing the instrument he loves so much and the friends that he has made along the way. Anyone who knows me...also knows how I feel about music but particularly the steel guitar industry. Our Steel Guitar Chat Room has grown tremendously over the last couple of years and it is my goal to help the Mid-Atlantic Steel Guitar Association grow even more as well. So no matter where you may live...you can be a part of this fine organization simply by being a member. We will be sending out a newsletter often during the year to our membership and you will be surprised at some of the information you will find in these newsletters. I have a great team around me and there is no doubt that we will soon move forward to our next level in the steel guitar world. Anyone wishing to become a member can simply e-mail me or call me and I will see that it gets into the hands of the right people to make it all possible.

It'd been a while since I'd been to a MASGA jam but it was worth the wait! Ray, congratulations on being the new "EL PRESIDENTE" of the association. In addition to your steel playing, I really enjoyed your vocals on Saturday night and all the good backup. Here are/were some of the highlights of the get together for me:
Arnett Mills......What can I say that wasn't felt by everyone there. When Arnett did his set on Sunday everyone was in the room and watching his every move. He has one of the sweetest tones I've ever heard and had a lot of emotion in his playing.
Chuck Campbell.....It wasn't the first time I'd heard Chuck and it won't be the last. He sounded and played great on that new Zumsteel. I hadn't heard Chuck sing or play bass before be he did an outstanding job. We had a good talk about our SoCal roots, Chuck did a stint on the west coast.
Joe Sapp and his buddy (who's name I can't remember)......The did their sets together and both of 'em are great pickers. Joe also did some nice vocals as well, makes me jealous as I can't sing a lick.
Kenny Dail.....Kenny only made it on Saturday but it was great seeing and hearing him again as we've been buds for a lot of years and picked a bunch together. We attended Scotty's together the first time in '87 for both of us. Going back to my horrible vocal ability, Kenny's probably the only person I know who actually sings worse than I do....Sorry Dad!
Sam White.........Sam, it was great finally meeting you and your lovely lady. Good job on your set(s) and I love that Emmons, it's one sweet guitar.
Unknown...I'm old and have forgotten his name but the fellow with the Carter Steel and the new Standel amps setting next to Chuck Campbell.......Great Job on your set(s). I especially liked your dynamics on the C6th neck. Those Standels were bringing every note right up front.
Allen Howington.....Great playing the set with you. Sorry that I got held up at Denny's and didn't get back on time for the night sets.
Glen Lanning........You're better every time I hear you on that SD-12 Mullen. I think it was a great move on your part when you retired that old Deckley D-10 as your playing is solid and tight. I'm mainly a guitar player and if I needed a steel player in my band I'd hire you in a minute! (if you'd take the job)
I have a terrible time with names these days but all in all, it was a great jam and everyone did a good job! It was nice hearing Larry ? on guitar again. He's a solid lead man. He plays just what the song needs and every note he puts out there counts!.............JH in Va.

I would like to congratulate Bowie for having such a good backup band. Not having heard some of the songs I played they showed a willingness to try anything you might throw at them. They really did a great job for me. Thank you Bill Lamb, Ronnie King and Ken Dawson for a job well done.
It was great to see some of my old friends such as Frank Jones from Richmond Va as well as Joe Sapp from Pennsylvania. I cannot forget my frind Glen Lanning from LaGrange, NC, Jerry Hayes and his lovely wife, Kay, from Va. Beach Va., Joe Smith from Charlotte NC, Ricky Hagan and Bowie Martin from Wilson NC, Allen Howington and his Dad, Sam and Anna White, Ray Wslker, Chuck Campbell as well as so many others that time and space will not permit me to name. I can't wait for the next one to happen. If you were there and didn't have a good time...it was your own fault.
