what a great tune! played solo on the lap steel. i enjoy the freedom of playing solo. found some nice interesting chords that worked with the melody. thanks for listening.

Another gem Bill. Your style is so unique. I don't know of any other steel player who does what you do or even tries. Please keep 'em comin'. Don

Hello Bill,

Mediafire doesn't work for me. I get slow distorted sounds. Sad

Could you post the tune on Sound Cloud or Youtube?

Just lovely, Bill. This has long been a favourite of mine.

There's something particularly magical around the 1:30 mark...

Thanks for sharing this remarkable performance with us here on the SGF. Masterfully done......and not a musical blemish to be heard.

Care to tell us more about the equipment used?

tuning from low to high is

E A C# E G A B C D E F G G# A

the two lowest strings can be changed around to suit the key if needed. the top 12 are working out very well where they are. i didnt have a 14 string pickup and didnt want to make one, so i just used a 10 string E66 and a bill lawrence 500 i had in a parts drawer. every string is represented! lol made a very decent simple keyless tuner also. the next one i make, i might make a pick up for, or find a couple of 7 string guitar pickups and see if they will work. always tinkering..

i appreciate so much every ones interest and responses!!

i also used this guitar on the "spain" mp3 i posted. used an old alembic F2B tube pre which is my fav for direct guitar.

Bill, Would you please show some more pics of the steel. I'd like to see some close-up shots of the keyless tuner from different angles if possible. What kind of wood did you use? Thanks, Don

used maple. the tuner is just aluminum channel...screws going through the bottom of it with the strings attached to threaded pieces of aluminum. some of the strings lock down at the bridge and 4 of the larger lower strings lock down at the tuner. it works just fine.

many thanks for all the kind words.

howard...the spacing is like 7mm i think. i prefer a tighter spacing on this 14 banger. easier to reach things.

any suggestions for a song i might do next?? open to anything. i have a couple i would like to try, but always interested in what people here on the forum might like.
