I know. I had to buy S*.I.T. strings for E9 last time and I hate them. The .011 in the set broke within 3 gigs, and the extra spare they give you in the set popped before it got to pitch (I can get probably 20 or more gigs on the Jags - don't know for sure, I never break them). I was able to get a Russ Hicks set from B0B this week, but the gauges aren't what I generally use, but I will try them anyhow.

Now, the explanation has been that Danny Hullihen had a bad heart attack and is way far behind and that is understandable. I am more than willing to wait for Danny to get caught up and try not to question or complain.
As an aside to this, it really makes us aware of how much we depend on these specialty manufacturers in the steel guitar world. Most are one or two man ventures, and if something happens to them, we are out of luck (ala Carter Guitars, Jagwire strings, John Coop, and many others).
for Bob Lee: In my last order, you gave me some "samples" of GHS .0115 and .021 plains. Thanks. I am not sure why the .021P, but I use a .022P on 6 and have thought of trying a .020P, but I think I will try those .021P's. I'll let you know how they work out. Sounds like a good compromise between the .020 and .022. Is anyone currently using a .021 on 6?

It was announced recently that Danny has had some health issues. It isn't hard to see how that might affect the situation with Jagwire strings.
My best wishes to Danny and Regina, and does anyone have an update on his condition?

Is it giving a shorter travel? It might not make that kind of difference on my guitar as that same lever raise 3 and 4 on my C neck a whole tone (pedal 7). I will put one on for this weekend's gigs and see how she runs.

I have been using SIT strings recently....and I have been very happy with them. I switched over after the Jagwire became a little harder to get hold of..
I never play more than 2 gigs on a set, usually they get used for home practice between gigs. Haven't had any trouble with 3rd string snapping.

Same here Damien, since Jagwire became unavailable for a while , heard your advice on one of our steel meetings in Sydney on S.I.T strings and have been using them ever since.
I dont care what they say if they are bad or else...etc.
I think they are just fine and i hardly ever break the string if i take good care of them , cleaning them regularly and changing the 3rd string after a long practice at home so i am safe at the gig .... They last quite a bit too. I had mine on for 3 weeks now on both necks and they still sound bright .
So sorry to hear about Danny Hullihen , Danny if you are reading this , take a good care mate ! Hope you get well soon , you can always count on us when you come back , your strings were the best and lasted forever !...I pray all is well with you and your health ! God Bless !

I got a reply to an e-mail i sent concerning an order i placed with that had not come yet.
this was reply -
Hi David,
Your order hasn't been shipped yet.
We were held up waiting on 15's and 20's.
They arrived this week and we're packing them as I type.
They will ship either tomorrow or Monday, depending on how quickly I get them back from our winders.

| I like Jagwire strings and will continue to use them as long as they can be found. Luckily there are still a couple of sets in my case. The main thing I like about the Jagwires is the wide selection of gauges offered within string sets. If it becomes necessary to use another brand I think I'll try D'addario. ( who knows...maybe they actually manufacture the Jagwires anyways) They don't seem too popular with pedal steel players and yet they are very highly regarded for six string electric. The quality must be consistent throughout their line of strings. |

Granted, some have had good experiences wit SIT string, but II am not one of them. I will say they sound nice, but the .011 does not last long and does not stay in tune (SIT stands for "Stay In Tune" -- right??) You go ahead and keep buy them and leave the Jags to us that prefer them.
I would like ti try Emmons Lashley Light & Lively (I think that's what they were called). I used to use them a long time ago and loved them. I don't know if Emmons still has them. I need to research it.

Good luck getting anything from the Emmons Company these days. I've had a purchase order for CDs sitting with them since May, and one of my students paid for a new case last spring and still hasn't received it.

I just got my strings from Jagwire in the mail today !
So i would hang in there and hopefully Bob will get some in stock soon fro the SFG shop or order directly from Jagwire

Precisely the reason I stopped using them. And I think Ron Sr. was still in charge. Maybe shortly after he passed but before Ron Jr. so I can't place the blame on his management. Since people seem to get replacements guitar parts quickly, I think they could handle a string order though. If I did go back to Emmons strings, I would want to buy them from a 3rd party vendor that actually stocks them. But if Jagwire gets current (which I'm sure they will) there will be no need.
And besides, I still wish to purchase from the forum to help support it as I am not in a financial position to just donate as in the past. If I have to buy SIT (actually, I hope to see a good result frome the GHS samples you sent), I can always replace the .011 with another brand.

Please, keep Jagwire alive at this forum, there are no nicer persons then Danny and Regina. And to me they have the best strings specially wound for steelguitar! Don't turn your back to them, help them, keep ordering your strings there!

Well, I am glad S*IT strings work for some. I just broke my 3rd string (this was actually the 5th string -B- this time) in 3-1/2 weeks. Broke 2 G#'s (string 3) within a few days after putting them on. I put this set on around Oct 18 and already I have broken more strings with this one set than I have broken on my guitar since I started playing again 5-1/2 years ago.
I hope Jagwires stay around and are readily available too. I can get 3 months out of a set of Jags and never break a string. They stay in tune better than the SIT strings (kind of ironic, since SIT stands for "Stay In Tune"). The only thing I do is change out strings 3 and 5 after about a month and a half just to be safe or if there is flakiness in tuning or they start to sound weird, but mostly it's just to be on the safe side against breaking a string on the bandstand.
So, I will junk those S*IT strings today and put some Jags on.

| Cobra coils are a better string.. Ive used both (Jaguars) Bobby Seymore always has plenty on hand.. I order a dozen sets at a time.. They are way cheaper .. Last lots longer ... and dont break...Period |

i can't really tell the difference in sound anymore. i put cobra coils on that were given to me. they sound fine, but i've broken a couple recently which doesn't happen to me much anymore. i was glad to see guitar center had individual ernie balls recently. i always liked them.
. ...so j.r. ross...cobra coils 'do' break....more than others in my experience.
be careful making bold but untrue statements unless you can stand behind them with replacements for any of us who have broken cobra coils. |
