I've decided to focus on resonator guitar, and I'm selling some of my electric equipment, including this 1953 long scale Fender Stringmaster T-8. This guitar sounds and plays great, and is all original with the following caveats:

-I've had three tuners repaired, 2 by Terry Mueller, and 1 by a local machine shop. The external parts of the original tuners were reused, so there is no cosmetic difference, although the internal tuner mechanisms have been replaced. Both the local work and the brazing by Terry is stronger than the original factory setup, which as many will tell you, is prone to failure.

-I have added a ground connection between the first two necks. I had a problem involving the first neck, in that one of the pickups would drop out when I switched another neck on. Through some kind email help from Basil Henriques, I was able to determine this was a grounding issue, and the simplest fix that I found was to add a short ground connection at the bridge pickup of the middle neck, which fixed the problem. This allowed me to keep all the original wiring intact.

The nut on the far neck has oversized slots which allow the use of very heavy, lower pitched strings. The holes in the tuner shafts are also larger to accommodate heavier strings. This was a factory option, mentioned in Forrest White's book, but I had never seen it before. Since getting this guitar, I've noticed at least one YouTube video of Buddy Merrill which shows him playing a guitar with this option.

There is some play wear on the finish of the guitar as the pictures show, and there is some corrosion and pitting on the legs.

I will ship the guitar with the original tweed case, but the case is completely nonfunctional for anything other than shipping. Parts of the wood have rotted, the fabric is torn, and none of the closures work. However, it's intact enough for me to put the guitar in to secure it for shipping, inside another shipping box, of course.

More pictures are available on request.

$1500 plus shipping.

Thanks for looking.
